Raiders sandbag...

Hi everyone!
Has anyone made a Raiders sand bag?
I'd like to give it a shot, but need to know the measurements and what kind of fabric it's made of. Some screen shots would be great too.

If anyone could help me out with this latest adventure, I would truely appreciate it

A medium to light-weight canvas would do fine. IIRC, there was a nice drawing w/ measurements in an age-old thread... don't know if it survived the Great COW Deluge though.

Wayne/Propreplicator (RIP) made a couple of runs a few years back - here's mine.

I see you're using a Samsung SyncMaster 957p, mine is 753s. :P

Great minds think alike in terms of choosing 'puter screens. 8)

Actually I just saw a pile of them going for €122 each at the local computer store so I just grabbed one because my old one wasn't working well anymore.

If you have a Garden Ridge store near you they sell 12 inch canvas tote bags with a web handle. Actual dementions are 12" high x 8" wide. The color is a "natural" unbleached color. Cost, $1.49. Antique brass eyelets and eyelet setter, Cost 1.29. Brown leather cord, $2.00. Cut off the web handle, add 8 eyelets, thread the leather cord through the eyelets. You can "age" the bag any way you want, coffee, muddy water, etc. For about $5.00 and 20 minutes work, your set.

Indeed. Did I ever tell you I have the exact same one? :D It's BIG! I wonder if you can just cut the back part off and get a flat one. :-k

Anyway, sorry to bother the thread. Move along gentlemen.

So are those measurements correct? And that's for one of the two sides, right? My mom might be able to make me one.

Yeah, that's just one side...the overall piece is 9x30 in.
As for the correct measures...this might just have to be one of those "close enough" props

Thank you, Perceval - that's the sandbag pattern I was thinking of.

VP - I dunno. Maybe Division 6 might wanna chime in on whether he extrapolated the measurements or if they're indeed from a screen-used piece.

Swindy - I'm sure it is possible to gut... sorry, cut the back of a Samsung monitor to the correct size... I just might bring out the Dremel and go for it. Will post pics tonight if it's a success. 8)

But if you post pics, that would mean you'd have a functioning monitor and that you hadn't done it... My brain hurts. ;)

The canvas tote bags are in the aisle with paints for decorating tee shirts and purses.
Additionally, Wal-Mart carries a canvas bag in their arts and crafts aisle that I used as well. It makes a good bag too. Using these “pre-made” bags just makes the project go faster. They may not be exactly perfect, but they are very easy to make and work fine.

Hi ya,

Been forever since I have been over here.

As to the authenticity of the measurements of the bag pattern I made, those dimentions where given to me by another board member a few years ago.

So weather or not they are 100% accurate, I can't say.

But I am glad some of you are using it to make your own.
As mentioned on the bottom of it, if you use 2 pieces than just add !/4" to the length and cut twice.

Hi all,

Does anyone know if Garden Ridge still has the canvas bags available? If I could get a canvas bag in the right color and size, I could probably complete it and distress it.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Serenade is doing a run of these from his own research, etc. They look darn good...just a bit pricey for my tastes. The thread is here:
