can anyone show me pictures, or offer their testomony on a wested jacket with the predistressed hide? is it a close match to the movie or is it better to just distress it yourself?

I think it'd be better to go with a lamb (or goat) skin jacket, I went with the pre-distressed cowhide, and then distressed it a bit further, but if i had to do it over i would go with a dark brown lamb.

Theres a few pics of my Wested in this thread (sorry its covered with some props) viewtopic.php?p=255306#255306 , hope it helps!

I just got an 8 year old Wested of predistressed cowhide...Ive never seen another in person, but man if the predistressed doesnt look just like the movie jacket to me! I love mine, if that helps any.

When I did my research on this and finally saw some good pictures of a few, I had a tough choice to make. The distressed hide has a nice look, but it seemed very hit-or-miss on how distressed it was, from tales I read. I was more in the mood for a nice jacket, and knew that lamb would distress naturally and truer to the movies. Still, if you want a tough jacket that has a nice, even distressing, then I'd say go for the distressed cow. I may do so someday, myself.

The predistressed jacket is a fine one.
It's not a match to any of the jackets in the films but if you distress it a little more with sandpaper it will look like the jacket in LC.

Now if you apply pecards on it, it will look like a really old jacket.
Pecards will make it look darker also so it will look more like ROTLA or TOD.

it also looks thicker and heavier than the lambskin and goatskin jackets from the pictures i've seen. Is this true??

In my personal experience, next to the horsehide, it's about as physically heavy a material as Peter offers.
If you get one, be sure you live in a fairly cold climate, as you'll get limited wear out of these jackets if you're in a fairer climate. I probably only got to wear mine a half dozen times before passing it along to another member, as it was just to hot to wear in my part of the country. :?

Just a word to the wise.

michaelson..what did you think of the look? close to the movies or is it better naturally distressing a lambskin?

Not be a 'pre-distressed' fan myself, you're sure asking the wrong guy THAT question. I got mine in a trade with _, and promptly treated it with a good dose of Pecards leather dressing.

Yes true, it's thicker and good for clod climates.
As regards the looks nothing can beat the lamb.
If you are interested inthe predistressed I have one brand new size 40R for sale.

I like mine, and as PLATON said; Pecards gives it the final touch.
Here's a pic of my distressed cow hide.

That's one of the better looking Pre-D's I've seen, K.
Did you add any distressing to it? It looks soft, too. Sort of like the Lambstouch cowhide Wested offered years ago.

I've always been tempted with Wested's Pre-distressed Cowhide myself. She's a beauty! :D Whenever I see the pre-distressed Cow, I think of the Temple o' Doom jacket.

Some one's selling one in the For Sale section and has pictures. His looks rather splotchy to me though. (overly distressed looking)

Thanks Blues. I did distress it, a lot actually. I used an old scrub sponge to distress it and applied some Pecards to make the whole thing look old and worn.
I've given it Pecards several times since then and it gets better looking each time. It is the standard cow hide but use and abuse makes it feel softer

Yeah yeah
A few layers of pecards and it looks like a real vintage thing.

Pecards can create an effect on the predistressed that's a lot better than what it can be on any other leather type.

That's because the predistressed leather texture has cracks like a dehydrated land and pecards fills those cracks and gives the leather an amazing look.
