Hello y'all,
I happened to see Sean Patrick-Flannery in some movie that was on TV the other night, and began thinkin' about his fedora. I apologize if I missed previous posts about this, but has anyone purchased a young Indy fedora from Steve/Adventurebilt? If so, any pics floatin' round' out there by chance and how do you like the fitting/look of this style fedora?
Kindest Regards,
Captain D

Im sorry I don't have any pics of the hat, but I was wondering if you know any places where I can purchase a hat like Sean-Patrick's.

They used a Herbert Johnson for the YIJC, just like they did for Raiders, but I believe they used the original ribbon for Sean's hat, as opposed to the grosgrain that was used for Ford's. So I guess if you want an accurate you should buy an HJ poet Indy with the original ribbon, and then send it to Fedora or Art Fawcett to nail the bash. :junior: -IJ

I've already got an Adventurebilt Beaver-felt "Raiders" fedora (best hat I'll ever own!
), but I've always liked the Young Indy lid...even if it's in rabbit felt (just something to monkey round' in). I suppose I could buy a H.J. fedora from, perhaps, Todds Costumes to save on the shipping fees and then let Steve work his magic....
Kindest Regards,
Captain D
p.s-If anyone happens to have any pics, I'd LOVE to see em'!

How are Adventurebilt fedoras? I really haven't read much about them, are they good hats?

THE. ABSOLUTE. BEST.
They're made of pure beaver fur, making their materials superior to virtually any other Indy fedora on the market. Steve Delk has spent years researching the block, and has the Raiders Block (which believe it or not is a very quirky block) nailed. Last but certainly not least, each AB is hand-made and custom made, with your initials punched into the sweat band. If you're considering buying one, don't even hesitate; At $225 (for COW members) it is by far the best bang for your buck. :junior: -IJ

Thanks for the info. Im a little on budget but $225 isn't bad at all. Im sure its worth it. I was also thinking of buying the Keppler fedora. I must choose, choose wisely.

Glad I could be of help. If you want to find out more about the Adventurebilt, here's Steve's website:

oh, and about the Keppler. From what I know (I've never owned them) they are quite good hats, but it takes forever for anything made by Keppler to be shipped. In fact, I've heard of people waiting over a year for their gear to arrive. Sorry, this probably belongs in your Keppler post, but since you mentioned you were on the fence about it, I thought I'd chime in. :junior: -IJ

Thanks again, that made me think twice on the Keppler.

If you're going to spend good money on an Indy, go with Adventurebilt. There's nothing like a custom hat, and Steve's price & knowledge can't be beat. I'm almost trembling waiting for mine to arrive!!!

GO to the search feature above,...type in "Adventurebilt", select Fedora Section,...you will have plenty to read about the AB hats.

Captain D,
I actually bought a young Indy beaver adventurebilt about a year ago. I've got some links to pictures below, one of which was taken of a mirror with bad lighting. Note that the hat has been tapered and warped some from rain and snow and does not look exactly the way it came to me, which was much cleaner and more symmetrical. The hat has also developed a sort of tear-drop crown from my long oval head and some subtle shrinking. This summer, one of the ribbon threads has also come a bit loose. Otherwise, this has been a pretty good hat. The felt is much darker than my Raiders adventurebilt and the hat ribbon is also a lighter brown and is not almost black like my Raiders hat ribbon. The ribbon is also wider. The wider non-dimensional brim has been good at keeping the sun out of my face and to me this seems like more of a relaxed looking fedora compared to the sharper and dressier Raiders fedora. I got this hat mainly because I love the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles series, but I like the look of the Raiders hat better. I mainly wear my Young Indy hat when I work outside and I keep my Raiders hat in good condition for less stressful situations.

Nice! Thank you for the pics there Steve and Tristan!
I just hope that if I happen to buy one that it'll look okay on me. Sometimes a particular hat tends to look good on someone else, but look awkward on me. Something to think about in the next few weeks I suppose...
Thanks again!

You know... now that I've seen Tristan's, I'm starting to think my second-hand, thoroughly tapered HJ started out as a Young Indy Fedora. The crown was similar when it arrived, and the color of the felt and the ribbon look like a match! The main differences were the taper and what looked to be a quick-and-dirty Raiders pinch.

Tristan, that hat is great!! It's nice to see an AB that is such a departute from the rest.
P.S. Yeah, it's tapered and ...yadayadayada. What a mess actually wearing a hat creates.

Hey the hat still looks decent, after all of the outside wear. If that were mine, I would pop the crown out, steam it a little bit, and restyle to get some of the taper out. Fedora

The hat pictured above by Steve might be mine. He made a Young Indy version for me (that I absolutely love) and I traveled all through South America with it firmly planted on my head.
If you scan the forums you can find pics and links to pics and video.
Steve, if you're reading this, I'm still trying to get all the footage together!
