Question about Press Studs closing

Hello to everybody! I'm new to this forum and I hope I can share my informations about Indy Stuff with other members here :)

I have bought a LC style Wested Jacket 1 month ago.
natural Lambskin, no 80's fit, no X-stiching (forgive me). I'm normally wear Jacket Sizes Medium to Large (Size 40). I have choose the Size 42 for Wested Jacket, because it should look more loose. The Jacket is wonderful, the softness of the lamb is incredible. My first thoughts was, it fits like a glove. Few days later after wearing the jacket more and more I found some problems. It's not possible to close the top press stud fastening. My neck is too wide. I have told Wested my neck size (17). It seems that the Jacket has indeed this size. But there isn't much room left to breath. Now I have sought after information, pics and it seems that even Harrison Ford wasn't able to close the top press stud fastener. What you guys think about this? OK I never close the top press stud fastener (looks silly). But this one really bugs me. I will upload a picture soon.

Sorry for my bad english.

Greetings from Austria

If you never button it and the jacket you are happy with the fit. I say just let it go.

Look perfect!

Quite honestly, I can only thing of a couple times in ALL the years I've owned an Indy jacket with top press stud/snap that I've ever had to snap it. In cold weather, I'm usually wearing a scarf, so the snap just isn't that functional, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Your jacket looks dead on for your body shape and size. :D

That is a good fit and great looking jacket. I know it doesn't help to hear "just forget about the top press stud" but that is my advice too. Get yourself a nice scarf like Michaelson suggested. It'd be a shame to replace such a great fitting jacket because of the snap issue.

Thanks for your comments. I'm gonna keep it for sure. Maybe sometimes I'm gonna go for a second Wested LC Jacket (44R with 1 inch added to the sleeves). I have ordered an AB Hat. But I have to wait about 6 weeks :( So then I hope I can go on with my indy gear.

An afterthought....have you thought about taking your jacket to a leather shop (like a shoe repair shop) and have them replace that press stud with a good silver or antique brass color standard snap?

I've done that on several jackets, and it works great! Looks good too!

Mhm. I believe the snap is in antique Brass Color. Would it be more screen accurate with a silver one? Then I would also need a silver zip too?

Plus, I don't think Indy ever had his jacket zipped up all the way in any of the films that I am aware of. In "Raiders" and "Last Crusade," he had it zipped like half way in a few scenes. And when Harrison Ford appeared in "Mystery of the Blues," it was zipped up to half/three quarters of the way. So, consider yourself "screen-accurate," lol.

Enjoy your jacket!

Sleeve length, dead on.

If you change out the snap, go with antique bronze. Don't get into zip change out.

Yep. That's what I see too.

That type snap is easy to have replaced. I'd suggest you just get it changed out, and you'll be good to go.

Orb,

I agree with everyone -- if you don't use it, then why bother? I don't have the press stud on my Wested, but I never zip it all the way up that I would ever use it even if I did! BTW, check you PM...
