Early Adventurebuilt vs. later Adventurebuilt

Post by nicktheguy »

I think I may have to post pics on this -- I have two amazing Beaver AB fedoras. My older one (One of Fedora's first production run I think) has quite the crown height on it. My later one (in Gray) is a bit shorter in the crown, and seems to be a truer fit.

Has anyone else encountered this, or is the Raiders crown just that big?
Like I said, I may have to post pics on this one.
Cheers

Yeah, in the later AB's Fedora discovered that his crown was a little bit too high, so he shortened it on the blocks. :junior: -IJ

Yes, I am guilty as charged. I originally made the Raiders fedora at 5 3/4 open crown. As time went by, I noticed on many folks, the hat just looked too tall, out of proportion. So, I reduced the default specs, and personally I have been pleased with it when I view the pics. Later on, Mr Garrison, our local surveyor, did the study on the original crown height and verified the shorter height. Of course, this tickled me as I had took it on myself to change something that was kinda set in stone, just because it did not look correct to my eyes. What is funny, is Garrison's first hat from me was one that he wanted a 6 inch crown on, as he thought the hat was taller than it really was. He found out quickly, the 6 inch crown was way too tall and I had to reduce the height, first to 5 3/4, then finally down to 5 1/2. Fedora

Fedora,
Is there a way that you can shorten the crown height on my beaver AB if it was to be sent to you? It's such an awesome hat, and I know I would wear it as much as my grey one if the height was the same.

Altho I find my crown high, I am very happy with it, and will leave it as-is...but for my next one...

Yes, no problem. I have shortened a few, and it is easy to do, although it requires remaking the hat using the same body. I hope we all realize that major changes have happened in perception since I first started making these hats almost 2 years ago. We never sleep here, and the hat reflects that when looked at in a continum. Most of the early hats were 5 3/4, but I did make some at 5 1/2 per requests. With that said, I still speak to lots of folks who like the taller crown, regardless of what the studies have shown. For me, I have moved down to the 5 1/2. Now, I just need the time to reblock my hats to the more accurate height. Gotta feeling it will be a long time before I can do my own. Fedora
