The armpit to armpit measurement as you decribed is 30 inches. The sleeve length as you described is 25 & 1/2 inches. The back lenth from the base of the collarstand is 26 inches. The storm flap length from the top of the collar stand to the bottom of the jacket is 25 inches. Cheers

Wow! That armpit measurement is quite large isn't it.

A 30 inch armpit measurement would mean the jacket has an actual
chest measurement of 60 inches!!

That is one big jacket!!

I remember when you got that jacket a few years ago.

I contacted Flightsuits about making me one, in a size 44, and using
the same beautiful russet goat you have there.

They came back to me, and said that the cost would be $408.00 for
the basic jacket, plus $125.00 to use the russet goat, plus $50.00
for a sleeve alteration because I have short arms.

That made the jacket come out to a total of $583.00!! I was shocked!
And that did not include shipping!!

I passed.

But I have always loved that russet color of your jacket.

You are selling it for a VERY good price, and you should have no trouble
selling it.

I totally agree with Flathead....and it's times like this that I wish I WERE a bigger size. I'd grab that russet goatskin today. Everything is right but the back size, and it's just to big. The sleeves would be perfect.

That's how I feel about it too. This is one jacket I hate to see go. FS only had that chrome tanned russet goatskin for a limited time. I am going to replace the jacket, but it will probably be a veg tanned hide, which will undoubtedly need to be broken in. This jacket needed no break in time. It was the prize of my jacket collection (cue the violins). Oh well. Incidentally, I put it on ebay yesterday. Cheers

Adam, are you SURE you can't get a leather specialist to size it down for you? I had a size 48 Wested I got from _ some years back sized down to a 44R, and it looked great!

I can't believe there aren't leather experts that couldn't make this work for you without you having to put new monies into another jacket that won't be NEAR as nice! It would definitely be for a LOT less money than replacement cost!!

Thanks for the tip Mark. That point was brought up to me by another friend (although neither of us knew anything about the details). I figured that it would be more trouble than it was worth, but maybe it wouldn’t be. The OD thread would have to be matched. I have already sort of resigned myself to letting this jacket go though. Someone is going to get an awesome jacket. I’m sure that whatever I get from FS to replace it will be really acceptable. I’m going to use this opportunity to go a little longer in the body anyway (something that I like on Indy jackets).

It’s kind of strange that at this point in the game, my only screen accurate Indiana Jones gear that I have left are my Aldens. I have two pair of 405’s. One pair are original brown from Fritz (the man who sold them to Ford originally). Until recently I had also owned 4 Expedition Jackets. All my other stuff is gone. In the end it was more fun for me to collect all the gear than to actually own it, especially after wanting it all since I was a kid. And I at one point owned everything, all of it top of the line.

I’m probably only going to replace two of my three Expeditions that I’m selling (actually my seal brown goatskin has already been sold). I’m going to replace the russet goatskin with the same thing (as close as I can get it), in a smaller size. I’m also going to get a black goatskin Expedition. I’m also keeping my Expedition prototype made out of deerskin that used to belong to Paterson. That will leave me without an “authentic” (as far as what was on screen) Indy jacket. Although I might conceivably buy a Wested Lambskin in the future and distress it.

I envy the guys that are buying this stuff for the first time. Although I do have to say that buying gear now is all pretty cut and dry. If you have the cash, you can have every piece of gear inside of a month (except for the Smith & Wesson, which still requires some searching and modification).

Ultimately the shoes and the jacket are the pieces of gear that I couldn’t (or wouldn’t) do without. Even the “Indy fedora” is something that did not find it’s way into my everyday life (although I wear a fedora almost everyday). I’d never give away my shoes or my jackets. They’re with me for life. Cheers

Joking aside, you said it best Adam. Sometimes, the aquisition is more fun than actually owning something. Except for the Smith & Wesson that you sold me. That is REALLY fun to own!!! If you ever feel nostalgic for your old Smith it's only a few miles away! Let's go shoot it!!!
