Hi Webhead,I did the same with my mkvii-it makes the world of differance if you use your bag on a daily basis. Some people don't like to alter their bags because they are vintage but I say don't be shy-after all they are still easy to get hold of and they are meant to be used(save the divider cloth though-useful for repairs later)

I have an original MKVI Canadian bag in khaki that doesn't have all the little pockets in it that the MKVII has. It is much more functional for carrying gloves, bottle of water, first aid kit, whatever I need while on my hiking or camping trips. There is one small pocket, which is perfect for my knife.

I also have an original MKVII, and I did have a bit of hesitation cutting off the original web strap and replacing it with the leather. I opted to carefully remove the stitching where it was sewn to the metal loop.

I honestly really like the dividers. very handy for keeping things organized in there. Plus the pockets are great for holding a knife, address book, PDA, whatever. :junior: -IJ

I guess the time has come again to post a link to what I've done with a couple of bags, putting the divider to use instead of throwing it away. ;)

Not a bad idea with what you did to the rear pocket I think. More room is always good. :)

On my hand that's where I keep my Moleskine notebook, the pocket being deep enough as it is to reach it easily without having to shove my hand all the way down there.

Thanks for sharing.

Mine never had that internal divider, nor the knife pocket. :junior: -IJ
