Close enough,good enough?
Hi everyone,my old lid-a bailey-fits me like a dream,it's beautifully battered and has real egyptian sand in the stitches, but it's bothering me now that it's NOT screen accurate because all the rest of my gear IS authentic.I KNOW I should get an AB or Fed but I just can't bring myself to replace my old friend!.Does anyone else have this problem? - a faverette piece of gear that is not screen accuratte but you don't want to replace?

The biggest dilemma I had was not having authentic gear made by the manufacturers for the movies. I used to wear a fedora that I thought was close until I bought my first HJ. When I saw the difference, my 'old faithful' was replaced. As far as screen accurate lids go, Adventurebilt is as close to the HJ used in Raiders as you're gonna get (in my opinion).

It seems that the 'spirit' of IndyGear is getting lost somewhere. Even screen accurate and manufacturer-specific articles are just a costume, until you give them personality. If you want to display a proper accurate lid, or keep it as part of a costume display, then Akubra or AB are great pieces, but it's the gear that has been on your travels, that have served you well on your adventures and become part of your story that is the true Gear.
This site isn't just about how to get the most accurate gear, it's about living the spirit of Indy. Please don't lose sight of this. Feel free to share pics of your lid for us all to appreciate. After the 150th pic of another AB, it is nice to see something new/different. AB's are still new to the market, and not a lot of them have great stories to tell. Feel free to share the stories of your hat with us.
I have an entire Indy costume by all of the right makers, but it is my close-enuffs from the 80's and 90's that have stories to tell, and the sweat/blood stains to show for them.

It is a question of point of view ! personaly i never wear indy gear except the shirt and jacket. i prefer used them as display ! ( indy is a 30' movie character, it is the same thing FOR ME as darth vader, i will never go outside with a vader costume ! ) so i prefer to have complete costumes from original makers on mannequin...

I have an AB, and a Fed Delux, both thanks to Fedora...the AB sits on a shelf with my props, but the Fed has been on every Geocache with me. It has dirt, and bug carcasses and sweat, and has stories, and a personality. I have a $25 safari shirt that went with me to England in 2001, and rode the Eye, and the train to London from the West Midlands. My MrsDeadlock shirt was on my back the whole time I was in the hospital while my wife was in labour with our first child. All the while, my NH shirt was hanging on a wall at home. I have a 10' DM, but I cherish the 4-plait, two-tone swivel handle Mexican whip I got for my 16th birthday by my best friend. The stories make the gear, not the other way. Don't lose sight of that.

My history with hats is a long and dynamic one. I always loved hats of all kinds, but it was Indiana Jones that sold me on Fedoras when I was still a kid. As a post-pubescent homosapien (though not a "grown up") I moved away from the Indy Hat desire and have amassed a large number of fedoras. Now, I'm full circle and looking for the right Indy Hat again.
My Point? It's supposed to be One Man-One Woman, NOT One Man-One Hat! New hats are great, but there will always be old faithful.

Now I know why you just can't miss the Finger Lakes Summit this year. The summit location is just eight miles down the road from Bath, New York.
Last year, everytime that GraveRobberGreg and I passed through town, we wanted to stop in the police station and get them to give us something official that said, "Bath Police" on it. Okay, so we have a warped sense of humor. If I worked there, I don't know if I could resist going to work with a shower cap on my head.
