Here are 5 different close-enough indy boots in my closet..I snuck a real Alden in there for comparison.

I really like the look of the 'Work America' ones.
How heavy are they compared to the Alden boots?
(Comparing just one will do too and I'll put two and two together.)

It strikes me that the Alden look much better in certain profiles or angles than any of the others, just MHO.

I agree, but the other boots are pretty good close-enoughs.

T.R.- I noticed you've given the J.Crews quite a workout. Would that mean they are the most comfortable?

This is true.. the thing about the Aldens to me, is that they perfectly balance the "chunky" boot and the "dressy" shoe. That is to say that they're neither too chunky or too dressy.

Swindie, the Work America boots are a bit lighter in weight than the Aldens.

Jim, the J.Crews are very well worn in and comfortable. It took a while for them to actually BE comfortable. They are known for their uncomfortableness . They have a very unforgiving heel cup and no cushion inside. This means if you add an insole for comfort, the heel cup is too short and is excruciatingly painful. The key is to find a really thin insert. They've gotten better with time and are fine now, though NOT the most comfy of the bunch. The Aldens are much better out of the box, and the AE boots are super comfy and have room for nice cushy insoles! AE boots are probably most comfortable all around. Sorry for the long winded answer

Nice comparison TR. I hadn't heard of the Work America boots. They look fairly good except for the color and a few details.

Any idea where to pick up any of the close-enoughs? I'm having some trouble locating some...

I never knew that about J.Crews. They've always been very popular here at COW, but I've never heard anyone mention the comfort factor before. I was just curious.

Oh, and by the way, IndyDoc...I love the avatar. Way cool.

Tyrloch, have you looked on J. Crews site? I don't know if they are out of the Ruggeds or not. They probably are by now.

Then there are those others....can't remember the name. I think Indiana_Tone has some and several others...Oh! Carolina Huskers think?

The Work America are available on Amazon.com. ,,here

The two J.Crews are generally only on ebay these days until next years run of boots.

The AE now have a different sole, but should still be available either there or on ebay.

The Doc Martens are an older style, I think discontinued now.

The Carolina boots are available from Bootbarn.com or a bunch of different places

I wear my JCrews everyday at work and they work like a champ. Took me a week to really break them in but they're fine now. Since I'm on my feet all day in the warehouse I ordered them a size larger so I can fit some gelsoles and an extra pair of socks if need be. I use a leather conditioner I picked up at the local cowboy boot place and the boots softened up quite well. I don't use any color as I want to give it a natural wheathering so all the dirt it picks up adds to the character of the boots. I'll post pix when I get the chance.

Ive also got the AE boots, and after 5 years of wear they look like they need some . I prefer my aldens a lot more now, they fit much better.

Yep, those Aldens are pretty much new. I've worn them like,,2 times. My J.Crews are working for the time being.

Its in French. Here is a rough translation:
The shoes used for Indiana Jones were high quality orthopedic shoes made by an american company (Alden Shoe Company).
The reference to the "Indy Boot" model is #405. They come in leather and the color "brick."
Note: The color has varied slightly through the years of production. Its gone from brick red to chestnut.
Then it compares the boots from the three movies and there is a note which says that Harrison Ford chose the boots from what I can make out.
The site also lists different replicas.
Looking through the rest of the site, I see a lot of the information that I have seen here. They even has Todd's holsters in the holster section and talk about Indy Magnoli throughout.
Nice find. It is like IndyGear for the French crowd!
