MK VII - Patterns/Laptop

Hey all,

Been a while since I was around here! Hope everyone is doing well.

I just had a quick question. Does anyone have a pattern for the MK VII bag? I want to try and make a laptop bag with the same look, but I don't want to have to tear apart my MK VII to do it.

Thanks,

Jeff

crazylegs, it's been a long time since I seen you around here. How have you been?

This is a great idea. I wish I could help but would love to know how you make out with this roject.

I've been pretty good.

Just got done by first year of school, and now I'm just slacking off for the summer.

I'm suprised no one has made one yet. I just got a laptop and the first thing I thought about was how cool it would be to be able to carry it in my MK VII, I thought about snapping the laptop in half so it would fit, but thought it might be cheaper to make a replica of the MK VII instead.

If someone can get me a pattern, then it should go quick and I'll modify the pattern and post them here in PDF format so you can all make your own. If I can't track one down, I'll have to guess and make one up.

Indy Magnoli might have one he made for his MG-VII bag, https://host385.ipowerweb.com/~indyprop ... ucts_id=66

No dice VP. I contacted him about making me a bigger one, but he says they are built in a run. Still, he might have the pattern. Worth a shot, I guess.

If I were you, I'd scour ebay until I found a repro that was selling cheap, buy it and tear it apart. They tell us how you made it

I'd say lay out an orniginal and trace it on paper and make your own pattern as it's not going to be exact if you want to fit a laptop in in anyway.

I don't want to have to tear apart my MK VII to do it.

As he stated before. He didn't want to have to tear one open.

Crazylegs!! How the heck are ya?!

My first MKVII is nearing it's final days. Once it finally does (which will be soon), we can take apart what's left of it and see what's what and modify a pattern to laptop dimensions.

Oh, and Dude, where's my idol?

Lay it down and trace it. You don't have to tear it open. Just flip it to another side and trace some more. I don't even think he needs to do that as it's going to be heavily modified. Just look at it and see where it's stiched and where it's folded.

How big is your laptop crazylegs?

Sorry I haven't replied...Indygear was set to e-mail me when someone replied to this, but it didn't.

I could have done this tracing approach, but as you know the bag has those side things and such. I mean I could probably guess, but it would be much better with an actual pattern I think...

I have been good!! Thats an awesome idea using your old bag when it goes....that'll be a sad day as I have seen how much yours has been through.

You're idol is sitting right here, on top of a big stone block!
Hmmm.... seems like a few have been looking for the same. Someone suggested getting a cheap repro off of Ebay...off I go to check.

It doesn't have to be exact as you are going to resize it anyway. I'm just missing the point of having an exact pattern.

Basically so it doesn't look like a blind baby put it together with Elmer's Glue and a safety pin.

Murphy- you might just want to skip the bidding process and buy one from Todds. They are $25-30 I think... but I might be wrong.

:D exactly.

My goal is to adjust the bag as little as possible in order to fit the laptop. If I have the original pattern, all I have to do is add on an inch here, and there, and leave the rest alone.

The result (I hope) will be that the bag will look as close to the original in every way possible aside from the slight alterations.

If I were to "wing it" then I have to build a mock bag out of cheap fabric and then adjust the pattern. It creates more of a trial and error situation instead of having half the guess work already done.

Which brings me to a question. What do you guys think I might need to consider...considering this is going to be used for a laptop.

I have already decided that I am going to add a foam part in the bottom to keep it from getting banged on the table, but is there anything else you can think of?

Ya, I may have to consider it, but because of the exchange, duty, and such a $25 bag can become pretty pricy simply to rip up. I have already bought all the materials and I'm trying to avoid the cost of the bag being more than the laptop! :P
