Hey guys, I baught a 10ft nylon, still in its breaking in stage, the guy said it was from Western Stage props. Boy is it fantastic!! A little stiff but fantastic. After cracking the 10ft nylon whip for more then a half hour, I grabbed my 8ft 12plait ECWHIP, and boy was there a difference! At first I thought there was something wrong with it(because its the only whip I've handled so dont make fun of me too much) but boy compared to the nylon, the ECWHIP cracked like butta!! I'll see if I can get some pics soon.

So did you like cracking the roo or nylon whip best?

Ya know I'm not sure what I like cracking better, I love cracking both of them, of coarse after cracking the 10ft nylon for a while the 8ft seems to nice to crack and so responsive, once I break in the nylon a little more it will be also. Still trying to work on pictures!

Congratulations on your new nylon whip, Neo! I'm very interested in these nylon whips and how they handle. I like the price of them too, but I am a little confused. Are you saying that the nylon doesn't crack a well as the EC whip?
Would you give us a comparison of the two?

I just read the other thread "Nylon Whip" and that answered alot of my questions about them, but I'd still like to know how you would compare them.

Dan congrats! Enjoy your new nylon whip. Like you said it may need to break in some. This time of year especially the nylon is more handy than getting your roo whip all wet.

Tim Bass just e-mailed me and said that some personal things have come up that have delayed the production of my nylon whip. He is going to throw in some additional crackers for me and finish the whip by the end of next week so I am pumped about my first whip, ever! Can't wait!

I want to post a review but, unfortunately, I don't have a baseline from which to review so I cannot say things about the weight and balance and feel and etc. I guess I'll have to wait until someone more experienced shows up at whip practice in Athens (right, Indydawg?) and can help me out with the review.

I FINALLY got to try a nylon whip (from WSP) and well...............They're awsome!!!!!!
My friend got one and he invited me over right away so I could inspect it At first I thought it was kinda wierd, because of how thin the thong was. It was also very stiff but had nice plaiting. After a few hours of cracking it started to break in and cracked a lot easier. It had a very fast action and I found myself doing strings of circus cracks in extreem repitition. One thing I found interesting was that the last 2 feet or so of the thong was not braided but was twisted together, just like a cracker.......hmmm Anyway, you can't go wrong with a nylon whip, I'm definetly gonna get one for myself

Sorry it too me so long to get back to you Indiana Phillip, the Nylon took some getting use too, because it was in the braking in stage it was different, and my ecwhip is SOO broken in that it just cracked effortlessly. I recommend a nylon to anyone, also, Tim Bass is planning on making an Indy Nylon whip, so be sure too contact him if your interested, I might be getting one if anyone would like a review about it soon.

I take that as a hint?

I spoke to Indydawg last night and we're meeting this afternoon about 4pm and plan to crack my Tim Bass 8ft Indy nylon. Also, we are going to try to use the digital camera that he has at his place for some photos.

The point is that a review of this whip coming from me would be absolutely pointless because I have no baseline with which to compare---I've never cracked a whip before and have never seen or handled a nylon whip. In fact, that goes for leather whips too. So, perhaps Indydawg may be so kind to offer his thoughts about this nylon but I cannot speak for him.

I got an idea from Steve at Dinowhips through the Whip Enthusiasts group over at Yahoo and a some input from Sergei about accelerating the breaking-in process of a nylon whip. For whatever it's worth, I have copied it below:

Nylon whips get bunched up easier than leather only through the braiding process. I made that mistake myself.

A goood nylon bullwhip will be hard as a rock anyway when it's new. Don't dispair. If the whip has a belly that functions as a whip by itself, the whip will get better through use.

I can prove that..If you want to, you can take the stiffer parts of the thong and bend it back and forth. Just lay off the base. Then roll it between 2 boards, until smooth. Unlike leather whips, nylons take longer to "break in". You have to use them a lot. They can take it. I've snuffed candles, did multiple cracks with mine all the time. And I don't have to worry about damaging it. Put a good cracker on it and use it.

Sergei added that this would "loosen it up (and smooth it). Laying off the base means don't roll the handle foundation."

I haven't had time to roll it between boards but cracking the whip will suffice. Indydawg and I got a chance to get outdoors on Saturday afternoon and crack my Tim Bass and his Paul Stenhouse. It seemed Indydawg was a bit surprised at the stiffness of my new whip but I expected that after reading some of the WE posts at Yahoo.

I noticed a difference in the stiffness level after we had cracked it quite a few times. Although the whip is still stiff (is there a synonym I could use?) it is definitely not to the degree it was when it arrived at my door. So, it just stands to reason that the advice given here at COW is true. Use the whip--crack it like it was intended and the whip will soften up, eventually.
