Vintage HJ versus new HJ.......

I sent my vintage HJ to our local surveyor to examine and he sent me back this pic. On the left is my vintage HJ, and on the right is the one he bought last year from Todd. As you can see, the vintage HJs did not taper, in fact, it has mushroomed out, on its own with no help from me. I doubt if I will ever have to reblock the vintage HJ, unless it mushrooms out too much!!! Now that would be something indeed. To reblock to get rid of the mushroom or reverse taper as we like to call it, instead of reblocking it to get rid of the taper.

Hey fedora !
looks great ! i'm surprised by the "chocolate" color. R.Swales said by the past that all the indy's fedoras were "sable" color. and the original one i saw years ago was closiest to the new hj color ?

How old is the vintage HJ? Raiders era, pre Raiders, post Raiders?

wow, that HJ is almost too mushroomed out for me! although it certainly has the raiders look. Not sure about the bash, though...

Yeah, but what you don't know is the browns varied over the years. I have seen several different shades of browns in the Poet line. This involves different shades of red undertones and different green undertones. Colors can vary from run to run from the bodymaker, and of course when you change suppliers the browns change in tone as well.
On when was it made, I dunno. But, pre 1981 is a certainty. I personally think the felt on this particular vintage HJ is the same felt as the original. It shares too many characteristics. The color is not the sable, but a lighter brown, but of course some fading may have taken place over the years as well. It came with the blue and gold HJ crest. The felt is a higher quality felt than I have seen on most HJs that were made after the 1st film. Most of the felt used on what we see is fairly poor quality stuff. Disposable hats. It was not always that way.
Not sure about the bash, though
A joke, right?

no joke. It kindof looks like that hat was left open crown, and then given the pinch. Doesn't seem to have a center-dent. Maybe that's an optical illusion, though. :junior: -IJ
