Bursting at the seams it seems

Post by inexpensive_jones »

Has anyone else noticed how tight H Ford's hat seems to fit? Looking at this shot of him in the Last Crusade you can see how the ribbon seems to have to flair outwards to get on his head. The hat seems to ride a little high as well. Could it be that he should be wearing a slightly larger fedora? Personally I like this look though. What are your thoughts?

snug fit

I agree. In some scenes, even in Raiders, it seems like he was wearing a smaller size. Especially when he wears it higher on his head like that or pushed back. A proper-sized fedora looks bigger on my head than Indy's usually looks on his. On the other hand, everybody's head is different... and I would be preaching to the choir if I brought up lens angles to you.

I believe that it is just the knot on the ribbon or the way his head is tilted.

I disagree. The whole ribbon seems to be following the contour of his head. Maybe some shrinkage taking place would explain it.

I know exactly what you're talking about, I-J. I have noticed that some hats have that flair new, not even while worn. But I've seen it on well broken in hats the most. I also noticed, now that I have a really soft HJ, that wearing the hat pushed back or at different positions on the head is a completely different experience than with even a mildly stiffened hat of the same size. I can make my HJ ride a little higher like that picture, and it's a little too big on me! If it were just the right fit, I bet I duplicate that photo (in terms of how the hat sits).

PS; Are you sue that pic is from LC? If it is, where's his tie? :?:

That's the LC pinch. And he didn't always have the tie on in the movie. I'll look back tonight if I get the chance just to be sure, but I don't think he entered Petra with a tie on.

IIRC he only wore gear with a tie in Germany and during the zeppelin/plane/car/beach chase.

Yes. Once they're in Hatay, the tie's gone.

Affirmative.
That is also the picture of HF on the LC DVD.
