I am asking for assistance in identifying a couple of whips, which I have owned for many years.

: The first whip is an 8' rawhide swivel-handle bullwhip. There is an articulated metal joint between the handle and the thong. The handle is sewn leather. The plaiting is very nicely done.

: The next whip is an 8' kangaroo hide bullwhip. The fit and finish are excellent, the plaiting is flat and tight, the plaiting pattern is beautifully rendered.

This is my first try at posting pictures; I hope it works. Thank you for any input you might offer.

Very nice looking bullwhips. The first whip, Sorry, not a clue. It almost looks like the handle isn’t original to the whip, or was possibly redone at some point. But that’s just a guess.

The second whip has characteristics of the older Terry Jacka Australia bullwhips, more specifically the two tone natural tan and Brandy ones he made for Mark Allen in the 90's and similar to one shown in the Whip cracking made easy part I. I can’t say for sure though, Any idea roughly how old it is? The wrist loop looks a bit wider then standard and the handle seems to have a bit of a taper which I don’t recall Terry doing that but it could also be the picture angle. How long is the handle including the two knots? Does it drop to a 6 or 8 plait point?

I agree with Dan about the bottom whip. I've got a Leatherman catalog from 1994 and the two-tone Jacka whips pictured in the catalog look just like this one, tapered handle and all. I remember talking with Joe Strain a while back and he said that Terry has experimented with different handle foundations from time to time.

And I also have no idea about the top whip, but it is cool-lookin'.

That is indeed, the prettiest swivel handle bullwhip I've ever seen.

My ONLY reservation about that second whip being a Jacka is that I've cracked a few of those two-tone Jacka whips Dan and Adam mention, and the strands on that whip just look too wide.

HOWEVER, the two-tone whips that I've played with are the same design that he currently produces, (the long, fiberglass handle with the "Transition from Hades.") so I believe they were later examples of the "experimentation era." It certainly does look more like the whip Michele P. used as Catwoman in "Batman Returns," ('92) and the smooth plaiting you're talking about is certainly a universal descriptor of Jacka's work.

I have attempted to communicate with Mr. Jacka via email, but it seems he does not like dealing with email, computers, etc.

His assistant, wife, significant other(?) politely declined to convey my inquiry to Mr.Jacka.

I wish the pictures could do justice to the whip. It is supremely beautiful in every way. By every measure, it is a consumate work of art. Whoever created the whip did a masterful job.

I could kick myself, indeed I have kicked myself for, at the time > 10 years ago, failing to buy the matching stockwhip. What a set that would have been.

Yup, looks exactly like the Jacka whip pictured in my 1994 Leatherman catalog. There's also a picture of the matching stockwhip, which had three pattern changes in the handle, and some single diamond work and turk's heads in and on the lash. I share pics, but alas, I don't have a scanner.

You should call David Morgan regarding that top whip that is pictured. He just showed me some whip photos recently that he is including in his newest book and one of the whips pictured looked exactly like yours. He pointed it out briefly but I can't for the life of me recall what he said about it. Anyway, he would be the man to ask.

After seeing the newer pictures I am almost positive the two tone bullwhip one of Terry Jackas.

Terry is hard whipmaker to get a hold of directly, he likes keep to himself, let his reputation sell his whips and let his sales reps do the talking for him. I do have his snail mail address though, I won’t post it publicly but if you would like to write him the old fashion way, pvt me and I’ll send you a copy.
