Rubbing Alcohol in the UK?

Post by saxophone jones »

Where can you actually buy rubbing alcohol in the UK for the purposes of removing the shine on a new Wested?

Boots staff look at you as though you are either mad or some kind of terrorist if you suggest that you ought to be able to buy chemicals at a chemists shop! Other stores are similar but at least seem to have heard of it.

Any easy answers?

I'm sorry I can't help. Here in the US its available in the medicine section of most any (if not all) grocery stores. I don't understand why it would be hard to find in the UK. I'm sure one of our UK gearheads will chime in and be able to help you. :)

Try asking for isopropyl alcohol or surgical spirit.

Isopropyl alcohol is different than surgical spirit. Isopropyl alcohol is what you want.

Maybe I'll try a very light wipe with surgical spirit.
The slight removal of pigment is not a displeasing way of achieving a slightly used look anyway! I may even intentionally do this on some highpoints such as the yolk seam and shoulders.

Yup, surgical spirit is slightly different stuff but it does work, go gentle!

You can get rubbing alcohol in the uk, just ebay isopropyl alcohol and UK and you will find suppliers about 3 quid for 500ml last time I looked.
