The snap on my whip holder opens up is just a little too easily. Does anyone know a surefire way to make it stay closed better?

Take a pair of plyers and squeeze the "male" part of the snap until it is slightly oval instead of round.

I do this to all my whip holders. Don't squish the snap into a football shape. Just give it a slight squeeze that makes it less round and it will hold better.

I know exacltly what you guys are talking about. Here is what I did and what you can do.

Call Scovill Snap fastener Company. (888-SCOVILL) Tell them that you want samples of their "heavy" or "extra heavy" snaps, both parts, male and female. (Samples are FREE.) When I got mine I just replaced the female part. (the part that goes "in" on the leather strap of the holder. Not the part that sticks "out" on the belt)
I have had no problem with my holder coming lose now.
They also have "pull the dot" snaps. These are used by law enforcement and others. You can only snap them and unsnap them in one direction. It keeps people from coming up and trying to pull a gun from a holster when it is strapped in. Or fom just coming out.
These take a special tool to put them on though.

After going thru many prototypes of snaps for the whip holder I made for my 10' er, I finally got theose "Pull the dot Snaps" from my local leather shop. They work great. No real special tool needed besides a normal snap fastener tool of the right size, which you would need anyway for any new snaps. The snaps ar about a buck a piece, but well worth it because they hold the weight of the heavier whip.

I definately recommend it.

Whose whipholder do you have? The only ones I own are Lee's. They have a one-way snap and have always been secure ... never opened unless I wanted it too. Just curious.

Now THAT's what I'm talkin' 'bout! Those Scovill "Pull the Dot" snaps look like the ticket!!!

Now, what size do I need? Dalexs? What size did you use? Or are we going to go with the plan that I suggested in my PM to you earlier? Just let me know!!!

Those Scovill snaps are exactly the same type I can get locally for $1.00 per set. If Scovill is willing to send you samples, go for it. Otherwise like I said in the pm, I'll grab you a few next time I'm down town.
