Bag strap - found a photo showing the grooves on the edges!

Hello everyone,
I just got hold of the 1981 edition of Rolling Stone magazine. There's a great close-up photo of Ford in gear on the front cover. It's a close-up of his face but you can see a bit of the hat, jacket collar, shirt and bag strap.
I was pleased to see that the bag strap in that photo has got a groove on the outer edge - just like Noel Howard includes on his Raiders straps. It seems that this is accurate after all. :D
I've read a lot of posts in the past that say that the movie bag strap did not have this groove, but this photo proves that at least one of the straps had it.

Interesting! Can you scan the cover and post it?

Chris,
You knew this question was coming.......
.....so, do you happen to have a pic for those of us who don't have access to the mag?
If not, perhaps someone else may be able to post it?

Hi guys,
Here's the pics!
I'm really pleased to see that my Noel Howard strap is completely accurate in this respect. :D

I'm curious, where could I go about buying that issue of Rolling Stone? Thanks for your help.

If that's an '81 magazine, then this picture would be from Raiders, yes?
So is it still up for debate whether or not the LC strap had the groove, or do you folks know something I have not yet read up on? :)

Shore 'nuff. On the other hand, there's more evidence of those pesky greenish Raiders buttons -- not the off-white ones currently offered by Noel Howard.

I like the strap of the NH but not so much the buckel. Although the buckel for the strap during the temple scene at the start of Raiders looks a lot like the NH one, was this scene filmed first and the buckel changed after?

I would think those grooves shouldn't be too hard to make. I wonder what the importance of those grooves are? Does it add strength to the strap? Flexability? or is it just decoration? Perplexing.....

Is it at all possible that he is not wearing the Raider's screen accurate gear for the photoshoot? It would be difficult to really notice if they are focusing on his face. You really cant see the strap that well, or the hat, jacket and shirt for that matter...
The "groove" can be stitching that runs along the edge. Does the Noel Howard strap have it on both edges?

Correct me if I am wrong but don't the NH whip holders have the same grooves?

You know, that's a really good point. It occurs to me that the famous full-body shot of Indy cracking the whip at the camera was probably taken the same day, and in that shot he is most definitely NOT wearing the Raiders bag strap.

Nope. Unless he's changed to that style before or after I purchased mine.

Hey, wasn't that just a movie? "How Indy Got His Grooves Back!" :-) Groov-vay Baby!

Notice the hole in his pants at the knee. Now look over the film for scenes where the hole is evident. Like the Bantu Wind scene. I think this photo shoot was done in between takes on the set sometime. The gear should be right on. IMHO.

Wow. I come back to this thread and it turns into Laugh-In. The funny thing is that these jokes are only funny in this context. Nobody else would understand them. Oh well..
Cheers,

Here is a enhanced image of Indy's strap in the Marhala bar. I see grooves.

I ran across this pic on the IndyGear site in the whips section.
It's a pic of the Noel Howard whip holder and belt. The belt looks like it has grooves in it too.
Thanks to Rob_DFW, here is a section of his High Definition pic where you can see the grooves too. I guess it's from the same scene MK posted. I embossed the exact same pic the groove seems to be more visable.

Cheers,
Pyro.

There is also the ever-present possibility that there were slight differences in the bag straps used in different shots. I think that if grooves existed, they were very lightly impressed, but I am almost sure that, in most shots in Raiders, the straps did not have grooves. MK's image above is the first time that I've seen any evidence of it, though quite blurry. There must be a promo still or something that would give a clearer indication either way.
But, after all, it wasn't until a couple of years ago that I was shown photographic evidence that there were two light grooves in the Raiders holster flap edge. I had always thought there was one...

Man, if a DVD version of Raiders EVER comes out I am sure that we will be able to verify / find all sorts of cool little details about the gear...

Thanks to IndyGear.com I've learned....... oops. wrong thread.
I think John's onto something. The DVD collection is on my Christmas list for 2003. I am wondering if it's possible to have an Indy Gear segment included on the DVD? Just a thought. Off topic? A bit. Perhaps this should be for another thread.
As for the strap, I love the nuances of the gear that are "discovered" over time. Details, details, detail. I still like what I have, though. And I'm sure I will love my Keppler strap when it arrives.

The grooves on the edges of the Noel Howard gunbelt are barely perceptible, and nearly invisible from more than two feet away. I've never seen a tougher piece of leather in my whole life. This belt is indestructable as h*ll. 100% prime American-- er... British cow's ###. Well worth the price. You can't go wrong with this one, folks.

Just try and catch Raiders on the big screen and everything suddenly becomes crystal clear. I promise. You end up seeing things even your biggest screen TV will not. Alot you've never noticed before. Happens almost every time I see it on the big screen.
