Proof at last!

Okay children, whip out your widescreen copies of LC. This you gotta see!
Now, we've all speculated that when the grail knight takes a swing at Indy with his sword, he cuts the bag strap - hence no MK VII for the rest of the film.
Fast forward to this scene and watch CLOSELY in the RIGHT-HAND corner, just as Donovan scoops water into the false grail ("this certainly is the cup of the king of kings")
There you have it!
On the floor near Indy's feet.
MK VII bag, severed strap, plain as day!
CASE CLOSED.
REMEMBER you will only see this in the WIDESCREEN format only!!!
To those who've already found it before this post - my bad.
But for those who finally wanted proof - here it is!
Later

If you watch the scene where the knight take a swing a Indy (a single frame advance at a time) you can actually see the strap being cut and falling off his shoulder. Though it does look like it misses it by several inches

Hey ape,
Any chance of a screen shot?
Thanks,

Surprising that a thousand-year-old sword would be so sharp.

Not all that surprising. What else did the knight really have to occupy his time all those years but to shrpen his sword

Close his eyes and mix up the grails? Play tic tac toe on the wall? Play with his Abner Legos (Indy Legos weren't out yet)?

LOL, probably would be more like a dagger than a sword after all that sharpening.

That and he must have read that SAME book over....and OVER....and OVER!!!! I don't know about you, but after almost 700 hundred years in solitary, I'd go a little bit senile. He couldn't even go for a walk!!!
PS: After all this time I never even noticed that the bag is NOT in the rest of the movie

Seriously!! The dude can't even go outside to get some fresh air or pick up his dry cleaning! He's gotta sit around on his 700 year old butt in the same clothes he wore when he got there, and he's got no Sudoku, either!
What a boring life! This brings up the question........ would you rather be immortal and trapped / bored, or mortal and die but have fun? Uh, I think it's obvious ... the dude chose poorly!

What about food and drink? He had that little bowl of water, but that would not last 700 years. He couldn't leave, what if a worthy advesary arrived just then. That means must have ordered in, in which case, wouldn't the pizza guy or Chinese food delivery guy have to go through the three tasks? If they made it I guess they could attempt to drink of the Cup of Christ. If they chose poorly however, no tip in the world would make up for that bad day...just some thoughts on the subject.

Well if you ordered Chinese in the 1200s (700 years before 1940), you'd probably get some really cool Ninjas to show up and deliver it - but would it still be fresh? And if it wasn't, could you pour Holy Water on it and make it alright again??
You never knew this was so complicated.

I'm no expert, but I think the Ninja were Japanese, which would be odd seeing as they would be delivering Chinese food. And I don't know about back then, but the Chinese food delivered to my place can go about three months without going bad...no MSG my...but if by chance it was no longer fresh, the Holy Grail makes all things better, even Monty Python films that were great before adding the Grail.

True! They *were* Japanese... but who says the Chinese didn't outsource food delivery jobs back then? I know I wouldn't want to have to walk through a desert carrying food I couldn't eat! Unless the Grail can fix that TOO!
And now for something completely different...

duh, obviously the power of the grail sustained his life, meaning he did'n need food.
about the "same-clothes-for-700-years" thing, i always assumed that if drinking from the grail can heal all wounds and grant the drinker immortality then pouring water from the grail could repair an refresh the knight's garb.
schwammy wrote:Surprising that a thousand-year-old sword would be so sharp.
Not at all. I've seen katana that were over 500 years old that were still as sharp and shiny as if they'd just come from the polisher. A good blade will last nigh unto forever as long as it's properly maintained.

Until an archaeologist steps on it with one well-placed Alden boot, and SNAP! - there goes your 500-year-old craftsmanship (see Indiana Jones and the Secret of the Sphinx for details).

And I thought going on a 9 hour drive to Mexico and with only one tape in the car was bad, but 700 years with only one book... He certainly did not keep the cave clean. Everthing is dusty. I am sure that after a while he came up with some really good "knock knock" jokes. Knock knock, Who's there? Grail knight! Grail knight who?

The answer stares him right in the face:
Plenty of cups to pee in.
Big chasm in that temple
lots of room to throw the trash down

no it was only donovan thats why he turned to dust.
indy got fresh spring water when the knight said "he chose..poorly" it was which well to drink from that he chose poorly.

Ah, I see. Thats good to know. Live snakelings and chillled monkey brains is one thing...unadulterated urine is another.

Yeah, but then were getting outside the realm of Indy.
I have no problem with urine drinking...I wouldn't do it myself, but it can be quite funny if done with the proper comedic timing. But Indy drinking urine is outrageous...Donovan can have a vaat of it as far as I'm concernced.

"Heeeeerrrrreeee's Johnny!....D'OH!"
Man that takes me back! I havent seen that episode in forever. Random thought: How funny would it be to have the Grail Knight keep a "Complaint Dept: TAKE A NUMBER -->" - with the number attached to a hand grenade gag on the alter where he was reading (that same book over and OVER).

I forgot to mention:
Look at the "Snakes, why did it have to be snakes" scene once more, specifically Indy's gloved palm. The word "LARGE" is printed on his right glove.

I think he had a couple of people throughout the centuries to entertain. Take this old video parody of that scene. It's pretty funny.

I'm actually not surprised the strap was cut. 1)Knight has mad skills. 2)That strap had already taken a beating---let's not forget that Indy was hanging from the tank with it!
