Hello!

I am new to the forum, so I thought I would introduce myself. I have long been an Indy fan, and like so many others, have always wanted to own his hat. My search lead me here.

Before I start bombarding you guys with questions, I thought that I would share a little hat project that was inspired by my readings here.

Years ago, I was given an Akubra Coober Pedy as a gift. It looked like this:

I never really loved the style of the hat, and therefore hardly ever wore it. I decided that I had nothing to lose by attempting to modify it.

To start the brim was too wide (3.5") for my taste. So I cut the finished edge off and trimmed down the brim. I tried my best to give it a dimensional cut, it came out ok.

Then I steamed it to attempt to give it a better bash. The crown is kind of short, so there wasn't much to work with, but I gave it my best shot.

Here are the results:

You have a great community here, and I look forward to being a part of it!

Hi Randy,

I love akubras; they're tough, durable hats and you can do all kinds of stuff to them; the more you beat them up and personalize them the better they look. I really like what you've done with the brim!

And welcome to COW!

Randy, I think you did a fine job on that hat. I agree, Akubras are great hats all around. Welcome to C.O.W.!

Welcome aboard. I am fond of the Akubras as well. The felt is good enough to reblock, and that is a good thing. Regards, Fedora

Welcome indeed! Come for the gear, stay for the people and don't give your wallet to bink, no matter what he says.
