I don't think the ToD jacket had satin lapels

I know this isn't a great picture, but you can clearly see the gloss of the lapels in contrast to the rest of the jacket. And I think that the flash of my camera has over-accentuated the satin on my jacket.

Yeah, I was under the impression that it was just a regular white tuxedo jacket.

It's still a great looking jacket though.

Well, besides what Ford was really wearing in that scene ... what would be accurate for the era?

I guess satin, right?

I believe both ways would be period accurate. And, yes, it can be made either way... so everyone is happy!

That's an interesting question, Jens. I have seen satin used on black dinner jackets of the era, but I've never come across that treatment on a white jacket of the era.

This one's from the 60's, but not the 30's...

It makes sense that they could have put satin collars on white dinner jackets in the 30's. Why not? But in my years of collecting vintage clothing, I haven't come across one from that era yet. They could be out there, but not that common. The pics I linked to, however, show a real contrast in the material. I would think Indy's jacket would be dead obvious if it were satin. I don't think it was, but Magnoli's jacket still looks great.

Yes, I noticed the jacket has plain buttons. But, again, these jackets can be made either way. Bespoke clothes are wonderful that way!

Wait a second. Isn't Willie wearing his jacket and pants from the club during the plane scene and through some of the forest stuff? If there was satin on the jacket then it should show up in those scenes too wouldn't it?

I believe his jacket was cream. Look at the above photos and compare the jacket to the color of his white shirt.

Just curious - why are you guys making a distinction between tuxedo and dinner jacket? A tux is a formal attire which includes a dinner jacket, pants and waistcoat (or the barbaric cummerbund). Traditionally, a DJ has satin lapels that correspond with the satin ribbons on the trouser legs.

Its close enough for my taste, if I were to guess as to screen accuracy I'd go with non-satin, but I think the satin would look very cool with a satin white bowtie I have (and white pants and an eye patch... if only one of my eyes didn't work... :c)

I just watched the Club Obi Wan scene last night after reading this post and they are satin lapels for the TOD jacket. I'm sure the high shine in the photograph is a result of the camera flash.

I would lean toward purchasing this jacket from Indy M. for several reasons; the main two are the peaked lapels and the wool blend. I’ve been to a dozen formal rental places looking for a peaked lapel in ivory and wool. ( Never thought to ask for functional cuff buttons.) Everyone just shakes his head.

Tough to find even on @bay.

Toss in screen accuracy, he's a COW member, and
starting a business. Having one of these custom made elsewhere was around $650

Plus, I've got a couple of items of clothing from Indy, and the fit, finish, and customer service is absolutely second to none! I've got the ToD jacket on order... I'll post pics when it arrives!

That is a nice Tux rifht there! On top of that, it is affordable. $500.00 for a tux isn't bad, that's usually how much just the jacket goes for. Good deal there! Just might be next year's Prom Tux.

The dinner jacket had satin lapels! They weren't very shiny, but they were there. Maybe Magnoli post some other pics of the dinner jacket with lapel to make sure they aren't as shiny as they appear in the first pic!

Magnoli, what is the other part of the wool blend in the Shanghai Tuxedo jacket?

The fabric is a composite of Alpaca Wool (60%), Nightwist Wool (30%) and the rest (10%) is synthetic.
