Does anyone have measurements on the grip length of the rotla whip? In some scenes, it appears longer than in the later films. I was wondering what the measurements were on a "long" Raiders handle, including the turks head and keeper?
thanks

This might be what your looking for. These are measurements that Sergie took from one of the Raiders bullwhips Mark Allen had in his collection a few years ago. The grip length was a bit longer back then.

As far as I can tell, all the handles are the same length, 8 inches. It's just that some of the whips were smaller in diameter than others, giving the impression of a long handle. Rumor is that some ROTLA whips were made with one bolster left out, but nobody knows for sure. I tried to make a copy of the ROLTA whip based on pics and measurements a customer gave me. He gave me all the measurements but the diameter of the handle, and the handle didn't have the 'long' look, so I'm pretty sure diameters of the whips was way down there, 18-19 mm.

I don’t think there was much difference in the lengths of the handles in Raiders and TOD. The bullwhips I’ve seen from the Last Crusade look a bit shorter though. I think the handle was always 8 inches but that the
but the knot has been moving lower onto the handle making it look shorter.
In recent years he has begun to lower the point on the handle foundation where the diamond pattern changes to the herringbone pattern making the grip look much shorter then it used too.
The handles remained very thin until about 1999, that’s when according to Dale Dassel (aka WhipWarrior) David Morgan started using another bolster around the handle section. That’s also about the time the handles became noticeably more "beefy" so it makes sense.
