If I didn't know any better, I'd say it looks like he mugged Sergei.
That is one fine collection!

Holy whip collection, Batman!

I see that the 7 ft red and black Strain whip you have is also pictured on his website.

I hope to get up to three Morgans soon. I know a guy with a 12 footer from the 80s, and I think if I make him a fancy enough whip he will trade it to me. Right now I have an 8 and a 10 footer.

The Ben Scott whip looks very nice. I guess it's a shame that he isn't taking orders for whips anymore.

I finally bought a whip by Joe Strain this spring, a 16-plait two-tone 7 footer. Though, now that I've seen it and studied it, I'm not sure I want to keep it. Right now my favorite whips are the ones I use regularly, and I don't crack the Strain whip at all.

Thanks for sharing!

You can never have too many whips! Thanks for sharing, that is an excellent collection of some great bullwhips. I like them all!

I remember when Ben was making his Indy whips, it was before a lot of the whip makers here came onto the Indy gear scene, He made some really impressive TOD bullwhips too. It was a shame he had retired early form whip making, he had some talent working leather.

Ya know he has been gone an awful long time, hmmmmm?

It's very interesting to see the construction differences between those Morgan whips.

I really like the layout and composition of your hat, jacket and whip shot. Very nice.

Thanks for the pix.

I'm just happy to have ONE whip! Man, that's a sweet collection. Though thinking about it, I have that many guitars, so it's just a matter of WHAT you collect alot of!

DJN,

Awesome Collection! Tell me, what is or are your favorite(s) and why?

Adam,

I noticed a similar looking whip on your website, though not exactly the same. One of your 6 foot natural & whiskey whips~ the one on top of the bag. Both yours & Strain's look fantastic!
So, are ya thinking about selling that 7 foot Strain?

Jaba:

If you look further in my gallery, you'll see a black and natural whip that looks closer in design to the black and red Strain. The only thing is that I used all black knots instead of two-tone knots like Joe did.

I probably won't sell the Strain that I have right away. If someone were to want it now, they'd have to make me an offer so that I don't lose any money on it.

The one thing I wanted to take note of about the Strain is how he drops strands. Though, I went back and looked at the strand drops in my Fraser whips and my Schultz whips. I actually had to look pretty hard to find the strand drops in the Fraser whips, though Joe's strand drops are pretty easy to find. I think in any future fancy kangaroo whips I make I'll drop strands like Fraser and Schultz. In the Strain whip, though, the taper and tension in the plaiting are superb. And the plaiting at the handle-lash transition is so tight it is beyond belief. Joe emailed me and said that he doesn't think he's ever spent so much time working on a whip to get it to come together like he wanted.

 So, think about that, guys. Have a whipmaker order you a whip from another whipmaker. The guy making the whip knows that it will be going to someone who can nit-pick about every little detail, so he might go the extra mile to do extra good work. Though, we all know Joe does extra good work all the time, so ...

lol - my thoughts exactly.

Very nice collection... if you ever decide to start mailing out whips to random COW members... make sure my name is on the list a couple times. :D :D
