THANK YOU! THANK YOU INDYGEARERS! Luv my Fedora.

Post by PETER »

When I went to the summit on the QM last November I met a great bunch of people. This bunch took me to Disney and the Indy ride but MADE me buy a fedora in the Indy shop as with only a jacket I was improperly dressed. The fedora was not great quality but did the job.
Coming back from vacation I was informed that there was a parcel for me with some import duty to pay. #### I said not another jacket alteration who has not declared it came from us, no send it back.
Then by chance I found it was not a jacket but a Hat, what?
I paid the duty and followed the instructions. I opened the enveloppe first and read to my amazement that members of the COW had clubbed together to buy me a PROPER fedora. I opened the box, inside was the most beautiful Fedora I have ever seen, an Adventurebilt, the Rolls Royce of hats which made my Disney job look like a pre war Skoda.
I know that a number of you donated towards this secret project both from the QM and the COW and I wish to thank all of you and in particular DocIndy-Jones who organised it.
Thank you all
Cheers
Peter

Good point, Jens...bink.....Peter, if you use the search function, as well as the stickied post by agent5 about the jacket, you should find some useful information as you continue your search for that one, perfect, screen accurate Indy jacket.

We wish you the best of luck as you......arrrrggggg.......

Peter, I'm glad all turned out well with this venture and that you like your new lid. I'm totally in love with my new AB as well.

... maybe you could be wearing it when ol' Harry comes in for his Indy IV fitting! Nothing like product placement.

Made you buy it!?!?!?!?
We had to do everything in our power to stop you from buying that
super authentic, incredibly made leather jacket with that nifty embroidered hat/whip logo on the back...
(which is exactly like the one HF wore in the movies, according to the shop keeper! )

Glad you like the hat Peter. Now, lets see if people go around town saying
"He's dressed just like that Indiana Jones character!"

It was wonderful to talk to you again on the phone the other morning. I SO glad you finally received the hat. I was sweating it as the time went on... And not wanting to ruin the susprise I didn't want to say anything but with the United States Post Office after it leaves the US there is no way to track it. I had to sit and wait until hearing from you. Don't know if you looked at the inside sweatband or not but there is a punched PB on it which lets everyone know who's the man and who's hat it is. Thank you to everyone who helped get this off the ground and running with kind words of encouragement and donations. I couldn't have done it without all the help. And by george Peter enjoy you hat I think you deserve it! Now where are the pictures.... maybe someone will let you barrow some other gear...

Aw, Peter, thanks for taking the dog off the leash...we've been dying for you to get it! So let's see a new avatar, eh? ;)

Just so you know, I have it on authority that this project not only came out most recently due to the QM (where pretty much every one of the fifty of us looked at each other and said HE NEEDS AN AB!), but that other independent groups were also working it already...so when this popped up from DIJ, they all just threw their support behind this effort to make sure it went through. You've got a lot of 'fans' here, sir, and many felt for all you did that you deserved to be called 'The Man In The Hat'. ;)

Cheers, sir - can't wait to sit down and compare lids w/ you. :D

J

P.S. Bink, come on now, we got to get him a whip next...his jacket is 'close enough'...

Peter,

I am so glad you are happy with your hat. You have done so much for this community, and as such, you are one of the most deserving recipients of an Adventurebilt "Fortune and Glory" Fedora. Wear it with pride in good health, mate!

Cheers!

The size of the QM is widely available on the internet. "Peter's head" is the thing he puts his hat on.

Glad we cleared that up...

(Okay, yeah, as noted, I believe Peter knew his hat size and it came up in discussion at the QM, which is a British cruise ship which has a VERY long history, also being pressed into use as a military transport during WWII...it now resides fairly FIRMLY in Long Beach, CA, as a hotel and tourist attraction, and has been the site of four annual IndyGear summits. ;))

So that everyone will know. The hat was too small!! I made it a 7 1/4 per the instructions, and he probably wears a 7 3/8 or a 7 1/2. That is why the hat looks small on his head. I have offered to resize it, or make another one that fits. Head measurements would have alleviated the sizing problem, but since this was a surprise, his Dorfman was used as reference. The large size I think, which covers probably a couple of sizes. Not sure. But, the 22 5/8 circumference that I made this hat.......was too small. Fedora

It may work out for the best, Steve. Send him a brand new one, and have him hang onto that 7 1/4. When Ford comes in for his fitting for Indy IV, maybe Peter will hand him that 7 1/4 (Fords size), and you'll have your foot in THAT door!!

Ya never know! :D

:? Yeah I screwed it all up I should have not taken on the project to begin with and just let the proper people handle it. As I've just recentally learned from reading some of the above posts that is was after all not an orginal idea on my part and if I wouldn't have stuck my nose where it didn't belong maybe Peter would have received a correct hat in the first place. Sorry everyone... I go back to sitting in the corner now and promise in the future not to stick my nose where it doesn't belong.

Brad's got a point.

We owe him a pint, gents (though perhaps not all in the same sitting!)--he spearheaded this thing and without that initiative it wouldn't have gotten off the ground.

Don't beat yourself up, you picked the ball up and ran with it. That's what counts. You weren't to know that the size you were given wasn't right.

After all you got an AB to Peter! ....I wonder if it will fit me? I'm a 58 (which I think is a 7 1/4).

Well the only reason I went with that hat size is because I was with Peter at Disneyworld and he tried on my Dorfman and it fit him so I figured we where the same size... and when his hat arrived at my house before I repacked it I tried it on to be sure. Now thinking back to my dorfman days I should have relised that the only reason we had the same size head is because The Disney Fedoras come in Small, Medium, and Large. Duh.

It was a fairly good guess anyway, Brad, and Fedora has reblocked for a better fit before. I don't think the size was anything to fret over. ;)
