Thanks

Heeheehee...the natural restraint that comes from not wanting to get in the way of an answer was removed by kalkamel's prompt post...so it was a bit more of a victimless crime this time. Really, we try not to derail things in progress...unless they are silly, of course. ;)

Platon, are you going to pick between two hats based on their linings? Is it the material or the design you're interested in?

Just curious.-HJ

Why the sweatband wrinkled so much anyway? How deep you pushed those dents?

That sweatband is from one of the four(!) suppliers, who tried to create what I wanted, but it is too soft. A sweatband can be too soft and as a result of this, it'll immitate the shape of the crown. Neither desired by me, nor vintage style, so this was a one timer.

WELL, darn, Marc. That's a shame. If that's a size 7 3/8, just send that raggedy old hat over to me, and I'll make sure it's hidden from view due to it's terrible looking band.

NO problem. I'm nice like that.... 8-[

Knew you are, ol' friend  I'm afraid that this hat doesn't exist like shown on the pictures. I have the habbit to trash anything that doesn't come out 100% to my likenings (don't - I said DON'T - ask me to send my trash :P ).

Steve has worked hard on making Adventurebilt what it is and so have I for the past months. None of us would EVER send out seconds.

Hemingway Jones, no my friend. It is not the lining that will make me decide. (I just asked for a lining shot of the AB cause I've never seen it).

2 factors influence my decision. The accuracy and the price.
I hear all of you saying that the AB is better than the HJ but when I look at the photographs at Todd's site or at idyfedora.com I see the same hat I see in the AB site. (Unless if they ship something different than what is shown in the fotos)

I suppose you are aware of the prices

HJ from indyfedora.com is priced at $233
HJ from Todd's costumes costs $239
AB costs $250 (beaver)

Based on the fact that the all the hats look OK to me in the photos I really can't decide. I do not care about 100% accuracy and the HJ I see in the photos looks fine.

However, somebody said to me that the HJ "doesn't have the raiders look" I want. Please help.

Platon,

If you order from Todd's do not forget about the extra fee for the Bash on the hat. Steve will do that for free. Which brings the price of the 2 closer. Also If I remember correcly Steve may offer a slight discount for C.O.W. members.

Thanks for your comments G-MANN and Ragingblues.

What confuses me mostly is that nobody supports the HJ.
I am not looking for the super hat.
I am looking for the actual hat Harrison Ford was wearing in the film. I am not looking for the hat that Indiana Jones would wear if he existed.

Is the HJ 95% close enough to the hat Harrison Ford wore in the movie?

Please answer.

I have 6 Indy Fedoras but not one HJ so I cannot help you there, Sorry.
From reading many of the threads and posts here I get this:

HJ did make the Hat HF wore in the movie. HJ no longer uses the same block for shaping that hat. Therefore it is not the same hat he wore in the Movie anymore that they are currently producing.

Anyone? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Cheers,
G-MANN

You're right. If the HJ WAS the same hat in terms of quality and block that was used by Ford in the movies, you'd have a resounding YES!!! But it isn't. It's a wannbe with the HJ name now, and that's why there are so many GOOD substitutions available to fill the void that HJ left when they thumbed their noses at us, oft referred to as 'hobbiest' in the HJ shop so many years ago, and while they were obtaining cheaper felts and getting rid of the blocks used for the movies.

That said, it seems you're all about getting an HJ, so go for it, and not worry about others opinions here. It's YOU that has to be satisfied with what you get, and I have a feeling you're not going to be happy with anything but an HJ. I'd recommend you scratch that itch, and buy one from Todd.

High regards! Michaelson

I have both the HJ from todd's and the grea Adventurebilt made by the master Mr Stve Delk

This should tell you already where I'm going to send you to. :D

The AB is so much better in so many ways. The Hj I got from todd tappered in less than to months and never saw rain. The Ab on the other hand is doing just great and has seen rain for about a year and a half.

If you buy a HJ don't ever take a look at a AB in person you will just have hate yourself. I feel like I wasted a lot of money on my HJ. I would have loved to take that money and spend it on something else ( like another AB :D ).

Thanks for all your comments guys. You are very helpful.
I appreciate the fact that you all without exceptions support the AB and because first I care about getting a hat with the raiders look I will get the AB.

The HJ in the pics below looks a lot like the hat in the film

http://www.toddscostumes.com/images/ind ... -large.jpg

http://www.toddscostumes.com/images/ind ... -large.jpg

http://www.indyfedora.com/indyfedora1.jpg

but I am worried that what if I buy it I will receive something that won't look exactly like these pics.

Therefore, as I said above, will get the AB (and maybe the HJ some time later in the future).

Again thanks you were all very helpful.

I am sure you will be happy with it. As I said before, I have 6 Indy Fedoras and the AB is the nicest of them all. I have another AB on order with Steve and an AB Deluxe on order with Marc in Germany. If that will tell you how much I like my 1st AB.

Todd can get the bash right, as you saw in those pics. I don't doubt that he can it to look like that - but the point as noted by jpenman, Michaelson, and others is that it will likely not look like that for very long. You would be initially satisfied, but possibly not for very long, due to the quality of the felt. That is their concern, that you be aware of that before you buy.

Personally, I would also recommend the AB, but I do not own an HJ.
