Afternoon, all.

This is a quick message to let UK members (and anyone who may in the UK at the time) that a date has been set for the 2nd British Whip Cracking Convention.

It will be on the 10th June, same venue as last year: The sports centre on Caerleon Campus, Newport College, University of Wales. This is in South Wales, about 15 minutes off the M4 and around 2.5 hours from London and Birmingham.

Most of the other details, such as programme and price, are yet tbc, but it looks like it will be a one-dayer. There will be beginners' workshops, and workshops on more advanced stuff, as well as some informal competitions towards the end of the day.

More details, as and when available, will be posted on http://www.whipcrackuk.co.uk

Hello everyone. Not long to go now!

The convention website has been updated, with price info, contact details and directions on how to get there: http://www.whipcrackuk.co.uk

We have twice the space that we had last year, a buffet-style lunch is included in the price, and the day will be a lot of fun. Absolute beginners will be made very welcome: we have whips for you to use, and will be running workshops covering a range of skills, from the basics through to more advanced stuff....the exact content will be decided on the day, depending upon what people want to learn (and can teach)!

At the end of the day, we'll have some light-hearted competitions and a prize draw. This year, we've been lucky enough to be sponsored by:

Blue Gum Whips - http://www.bluegumwhips.com
David Morgan - http://www.davidmorgan.com (no, not a whip!)
DT King - http://www.coyotewhips.com
English Whips - http://www.whipstore.com
Rhett Kelley - http://www.cowwhips.com
Peter Jack - http://www.thewhipman.co.nz

The event takes place in Caerleon, in South Wales, with good transport links to the rest of the UK by road, rail and air.

If you're into your archaeology and are coming from afar, it's worth making a weekend of it by booking into a local hotel and spending Sunday exploring the village and surrounding countryside: Caerleon (http://www.caerleon.net) is the ancient Roman Fortress of Isca, with much of the Roman wall still standing, the Roman Baths Museum and the famous amphitheatre (allegedly the true 'round table' of King Arthur), which had seating for some 5,000 people. The National Roman Legion Museum is well worth a visit, and there is a host of castles, Roman and Celtic sites littering the surrounding area.

Anyway, enough from me. Hope to see some of you there!

Dave

p.s. I know there are plenty of talented whip makers on this forum. If anyone out there wants to help sponsor the event, please feel free to get in touch: all (nearly all) whip-related items gratefully received, and we will make sure that everyone who supports the event is fully credited on the website, on the day, and in all our promotional mailings etc.
