I'm planning a trip to NYC this may and I remember hearing once that there's an Alden store in the big apple. If so, would I be able to get a pair of 405's there? I'd really like to get measured for them rather than ordering them online based on what size sneaker I wear. :junior: -IJ

If he buys them in the shop he still has to pay sales tax, (like VAT). If he gets mail order from a different state he avoids the tax.

No ! he could wear them to go through the customs. if the guy ask him about what he wear, he had just say : "a gift from my grandma !"
He could distress them during his trip !!!
It gonna work !

I bought my 405s at the Manhattan Alden store about a year ago. They had an Indy display and the sales clerk said they were one of the most popular shoes the store sold. So I'd be very surprised if they stopped selling them.
I went to the store with the intention of just trying them on, seeing how they felt. I then went to the nearby Empire State Building to do some touristy stuff and mull the decision. Wasn't much of a decision. After trying them on I knew the Alden's must be mine, so after my tour of the ESB I promptly went back and bought the boots. <grin>
