Flying V, pinched, or folded.

I have noticed some really nice fly v bows on some hats. In fact, I got in an PB recently, for a reblock, and the owner had replaced the ribbon and did an oustanding flying v bow. I noticed, that like some of the other really defined ones, the flying v was inaccurate in two ways. First, the flying v was not just on the front, but also the back as well. That is not screen accurate, or at least I do not think that it is. Second, the really nice defined flying v's that I have seen were made, not by a fold in the ribbon, under the middle vertical piece of ribbon, but were formed by simply pinching the ribbon, and then letting the pinch form the v. Of course, you get the v front and back, when you do this. Am I the only one that sees a fold in the original ribbon, and not the pinch? Does anyone have definitive pics of the bow that would clear this up? So, was the original bow, folded, or pinched. Fedora

I didn't get good results with the pinch so far. Of course, in order to fold it you have to pinch it first, but I then tack the fold down with two stitches later. Wenn you ONLY fold the ribbon under the knot, you'll get that pipeline look into the middle and that looks just too much IMO.
I fully agree with the flying V only being in the front as well my friend. Does it look good when it's on both sides of the knot? - Well certainly! It's just not screen accurate.
Just my two cts,

Ah, great pics. I saved and zoomed in on the bow. Yep, it is a fold, or it is obvious to me. I noticed also, that the stunt hats had the same bow, practically identical. I wonder if Mr. Swales did these bows himself? They sure look better styled than the other bows from the last two films.
You pinch your before folding Marc? I just fold the ribbon, and then run fingers along the fold, fore and aft creaseing it down as I go, and then tack it into place. This give me the exact look of the lower half of the flying v. Now the top part has to be coaxed into the v, and most of the time, mine will not pull down and form it without using some steam to make it stay in place. But, I install my ribbons with the sweat folded out of the hat, in order to get it really tight which also inhibits the top part of the v from forming. Course, I know that you do that as well. Thanks for the pics!! Fedora

You pinch your before folding Marc?
No no... I fold them directly, but you have to pinch a little material before you can fold it
(yeah, I'm being anal again...
).
