Magnoli Clothiers... Boots!?

How are these for a pair of "close enoughs"?
I am currently adding a line of custom-made shoes and boots to my clothing site. Among them will be these "Adventure Boots". They will be entirely hand made not only to the size of your feet, but to your individual foot shape. They will be available in five shades of brown and black with white moc-toe stitching, matching-coloured stitching, or no stitching at all (if you prefer). These will sell for $275 USD (which includes airmail shipping to anywhere in the world).
I will be adding larger pictures and more information at my website in a couple of weeks. Until then, please be patient; I'll post more photos here at the same time. In the mean time, have a look at this page at my site to see what colours will be available:

A week or 2 after I buy my aldens too...
Just my luck
Do they have a full leather liner?

How long until you offer whips, holsters, and fedoras?
I take it these don't have the metal shank like real Aldens? Also, do they have the Thomas heel, or just the standard heel? Either way, these look really good!

They are leather lined, with the contoured heel, but no steel shank.
I'm not sure about whips and holsters, but hats will be coming later in the year: top of the line vintage felts.

Wow....
Your starting to become the one stop Indy shop! Nice looking shoes.

The boots are looking really nice - I will make sure to add a pair to my "Indy gear I'm going to buy" list
What I find really appealing about them, is the fact that they come without a metal shank - I have really low ankels and my achilles tendons are really tight, so walking around in shoes with metal or hard plastic shanks is pure torture to me

Indy, you never cease to amaze me!
Maybe I should hurry up and post pictures of our joint project -- the Grail Diary Planner! I was at Starbucks today wearing my Wested and my AB, and happened to have the Grail Diary Planner tucked in the left front pocket of my jacket, peaking out from under the flap. One of the baristas (who already calls me Dr. Jones) said, in a very loud voice, "IS THAT A GRAIL DIARY?" Needless to say, it got A LOT of attention.
As always, keep up the GREAT work!

Ok- I've got to know, I've suspected for a long time:
Is Indy Magnoli a millionaire playboy, who has vast material resources and connections in industry? It's as if cool Indy props exist, and with a wave of his majestic hand, BAM! props appear for sale! And fantastic quality! Is this your main business or just a side line? And what allows you to do these wonderful things?
Can a (gasp) Pre-printed grail diary be ahead?!?! I would hope so, since I can't afford a hand done one...
Seriously Magnoli, your ability to make this stuff boggles the mind!!

Give Magnoli another month and he'll have a lifesize 'Build it yourself-Harrison Ford android kit', complete with action grip and swinging whip arm action. He'll even clean up after your cat. I think it'll be a big hit to have your own Harrison Ford.
Seriously though, Magnoli you are ON FIRE!!! When will it all end? It looks to be such quality stuff too.

I've got a question about the shoe. How is it that you'll be able to make them fit the exact shape of our feet?
I hope this doesn't require me sending in plaster castings of my feet. HA!

I'm guessing Magnoli will have you ship youself to China or Singapore or the Phillipines, where his crack staff of cobblers will strap you to a table and take exact measurements of your feet, make your shoes, put them on you, then ship you back home. Make sure you poke holes in the shipping crate, and pack along a bunch of snacks!

Nonsense! All you have to do is hack off your left foot and ship it to New Zealand. HE measures it and sends THAT to China or Singapore or the Philippines.
Magnoli - you really are on fire! Are these things as comfortable as the Aldens? Are they as good for your posture or feet? Orthopedic? Good luck with the fedoras though. The price sure is a "close enough," though. Whew!
PS - don't tell Magnoli I told you all this... next he'll be replicating the cars and making built-it-yourself set kits from the Trilogy! There's nothing he can't do!

You simply send in a tracing of the edge of your feet. A friend of mine has that done in Mexico where he gets his sandals made.

I will post more about these boots once I've worn them for a while, but as for measurement procedures, have a look at the measurement for on my clothiers site:
https://host385.ipowerweb.com/~indyprop ... -form.html
It's basically a combination of a drawing of the outline of your foot and several key measurements.

Interesting that they will be made completely at our foot shape, a solution for many people with feet problems, but.. the price is practically like the original boots

Yes, the price is quite close to Aldens except:
-they are shaped to your foot
-you have a choice of colors
-they are fully customizable (white stitching can be changed to brown, for example)
-the price includes shipping, which will benefit those who can't find Aldens locally or who live outside the US
The biggest benefit, in my opinion, is the choice of colors. A lot of people haven't been satisfied with the changing in color from pumpkin orange to brick red, and back. I remember when a friend of mine and I each ordered a pair of Aldens at the same time in different sizes. They were shipped together, mine were orange while his were a very deep brown (almost chocolate).
As far as sizing is concerned, if you prefer to send me your foot, please send it via Global Express and well packed in ice.
Kind regards,
Indy

LOL
Well I know there are many advantages in fully customizable shoes... but help also our wallet please
Yours are surely intriguing features, expecially considered that Aldens shipped to Europe cost 40 dollars of postage. Well I fancy to see the first reviews of these
(PS when are you starting making hats?

Mag,
How about doing a really good MKVii replica with the right weight cloth all the right hardware, and that doesn't shrink when it gets wet? BTW $25 or less or not interested. I can get an original for less.
Kt
PS. Please don't go into the jacket market, some of us would really have an issue with that!

I'm working on a MKVII right now. The first version is going to be made in a softer canvas (as though it's well broken in), but I may explore doing another run out of something a bit stiffer. I'll keep you posted.
As for jackets... I think there are plenty of options available already so...
Kind regards,
Indy

The next step is for Magnoli to put forms on his website so you can complete them online to arrange to have your paychecks deposited directly to his account!
So much good stuff, so little available cash!

This is Great! Yet another fine product from Magnoli clothiers! BTW Indy, I've always heard that Alden's treads were horrible on even the least bit slippery surface. Are you going to improve on that with maybe some different soles? :junior: -IJ
Ps. I think this officially makes you a prop replicator, Tailor, and Cobbler, plus your day job. HOW DO YOU FIND THE TIME!?

Question....so what is the shank made from?
The Aldens are steel for a reason. All my hiking boots have a steel shank and it's not such a big deal to get them xrayed at the airport.

I bought my aldens just a few weeks ago,
and the final price with tax and all (@ a store) was around $320 us.
So 275$ shipped is actually a better price.
On the topic of steel shanks,
I am carrying around heavy subwoofers and speakers at work all day,
and i sometimes have to work till 11. (I do the Audio Visual work for my Highschool) And ive noticed after having the aldens that my feet feel much better after a whole day of working rather than just having cheaper boots, and thats deffinatly because the shank helps support the wheight. For me its a major advantage. Will it be a choice to add a shank?

I concur with everyone above me Mr. Magnoli, you never cease to amaze. One question though, are these boots going to be formal dress boots ala the Aldens or something more rugged?

by binkmeisterRick
Magnoli, you are one enterprising fella!
I really love the idea of having custom made boots, though not knowing what technicalities in construction are involved, I don't know if I'd consider these orthopedic shoes or even perscription shoes, per sae. I'd hate for something to backfire because of it. It's not to say that these shoes couldn't be a good choice for specific reasons, but I know for a fact that the lasts and shanks of Aldens are specifically designed to provide specific support. No doubt you should advertise these as quality custom made shoes, but I'd be concerned about advertising them as orthopedics and the like. Just my two pennies worth...

Very impressive indeed. I'm impressed that Magnoli has the resources to make all of these items, assuming that he isn't doing it all himself.
My intentions for TAG were to arrange overseas contruction of all gear items related to indy and similar adventure movies. I'm not ruling the option out, I just needed to get the plan and those resources together before going online - the work and manhours needed to make items yourself doesn't make it worthwhile.
Kudos to you Magnoli, I hope you do very well.

I'm interested in these shoes - they're cheaper and they look the same, but what kind of leather is the actual boot made of? Are they as comfortable as the real deal? Are they going to help posture as much as the real deal? Basically - are they closer to Aldens than just being "look-a-like" shoes, or are they clones?
I'm watching this thread...!

I'm currently looking into all the options and questions people have posted; soles/heels, shanks, orthopedic value, sizes, etc. I'll post as soon as I have all the info.
The leather is calf. I'll also give a general review about how they feel after a week or so of wear.

I'm just starting to wear these boots and so far they feel great. They are made of a very soft, comfortable leather. Here are some more pictures:
And here are a couple of comparison shots with a used pair of Aldens:
I'll be answering those previous questions shortly. If you have any more, feel free to ask. I'll also be adding some pictures of other available colours to my site in the next couple of days.

What's inside the shoes? I mean the "lining" (I hope it's called like that)

Not sure if you're wanting to hear design comments, but it seems like the toes are just a tad too squared. Anybody else think so too? I'm not sure if it's the toes themselves that are creating this appearance, or the cut of the soles. Other than that (and of course, the thick laces), they look great. They're an amazing likeness, and the color is lightyears better than any brand new pair of Aldens I've seen.

I've also notice the texture of the leather is kind of course. (not smooth leather as most shoes are made of)

The color looks the same as my new pair.....

Let's see... the lining is leather.
The calf leather does have a slight pebble texture to it.
As for the shape of the toe, I think the sole may give it that squared off look, but the shape was copied directly from a pair of Aldens...
Tone, what do you mean by "line"? The stitches can be left off, or I suppose we could lower the ridge created by the double row of stitches, if that's what you're asking. Since these are custom made, individual modifications can be made without increasing the costs.
Kind regards,
Indy

I think I see what SkyChief is saying. It's more the sole looks kind of angular as compared to the leather, which has a nice rounded edge.
