Here's a weird one...

We've all seen the fedoras made from duct tape... would it be possible to make a whip from duct tape or would the strands be too sticky to braid? I suppose one could just wrap one of those cheap vinyl costume whips in duct tape.

Such a thing might be good for the vegans here. Or should that even be plural?

Drop RandallFlagg a line, I remember him saying that he was experimenting with it.

When I was a kid, I had one of those cheapo whips, and every time I cracked it, a braid would snap, and I would repair it with duct tape. The time I tried to swing from the steel beam in the basement on it, and it snapped in half, I had to put it back together with DT. By the time I was done, the whole thing was silver/grey. So although it wasn't braided from strands of duct tape, it was definitely a duct tape whip.

Someone around here had made a whip out of duct tape to practice their braiding. I don't remember who it was, though.

What if you folded over or rolled each strand of tape so they wouldn't be sticky when you braided them together?

I can just picture someone wearing an Indy jacket made from duct tape and spray painted brown.

I don’t think you can be a vegan and be into dressing like Indiana Jones; beaver felt hat, leather jacket, leather boots, leather whip, bag with leather strap, leather belt, leather gloves and leather holster.

Meat is murder, but killing animals for fashion is ok?

Indy has the most animal unfriendly outfit anyone could come up with.

Are you sure about that?

Correction:

Second most animal unfriendly outfit.

Agreed, but there's a thread about this elsewhere on the forum (fairly recent too), and it seems it can be done.

Duct tape comes in many, many colours. One of the duct tape fedoras is brown without being painted. That stuff even comes in camouflage and neon orange.

Oh! You mean racer's tape. Yes, it does come in virtually any color so that you can use color coordinated racer's tape that matches the color of your race car. That way, the emergency repair looks pretty good at 150 mph. :ducttape:

Actually, I meant Gaffer Tape, but let's not get into semantics here. ;)

But why would it come in camo? Does duct tape really need to hunt for its food? Is it that vicious?

"Back, duct tape, back!" :ducttape: :whip:

Maybe you could wrap your wallet in it to make it harder for Bink to find.

I did experiment with it for braiding before I tried with leather just to attempt different patterns and styles. I cut out several strips, folded them over and made a very small section about 15 inches long around a length of plastic tubing for a core. I had a pic but got rid of it. The problem with it was the braids wouldn't hold together very well and it was very thin -you'd need a lot to gain any thickness to it.
