I was just watching the Stunts section on the DVD and there is a clip where Vic Armstrong swings on his whip during the big fight in TOD. It may have a steel cable, but he is most certainly not attatched to a harness or to the whip. I just mention it because I read a post a while ago where it was suggested that the whips had cables beneath the braid which also ran under the stunt mens' sleeves and attatched to a harness. Not for this stunt anyway.

I know for a fact that David Morgan made a whip with a steel cable in it for the Mask of Zorro. I am unaware of him making any steel cabled whips for the Indiana Jones Trilogy. I'll check with him the next time I talk to him.

It's definitely been mentioned that Morgan did some stunt whips - my point is that they were probably similar to the whip that Adam Winrich made, ie: a whip braided over a steel cable for added strength, rather than a whole cable harness system disguised in braided leather

Similar to the one Adam made yes, but the fall sure as heck wasn't holding up Armstrong. Armstrong might have been just holding the handle, but I can guarantee you that it was attached at the top by something other than a whip fall, like the aformentioned carabiner, or some other solid attachment.

I can see them getting away with having no attachment to a safety harness on the stunt man, especially on a soundstage where there's a lot of control and safety in place already. But there is NO way that Paramount's insurance people would have allowed Armstrong to go swinging around supported by a single strand of leather.

Could Vic do it? No doubt! If that guy said he could dodge a bullet, I'd believe him. But it's not about what he CAN do. It's about what the people who control the money, (and therefore the production,) will LET him do.

I asked morgan this last year,
(what they did with the stunt whips)
He said he was supplied cable and asked to plait over it
as the core. So its basicly the same thing as adams whip.
