quality question

Just came across a website of custom hats that have a quality range
from 6x- 500x ( beaver) . I was wondering what this meant and how
do the Adventurebilts compare, i.e., what x quality are they?

When you see a hat that says something like "500x Beaver", that means you're looking at a blended hat. There's beaver felt in it, but other things, too. The "X factor" is supposed to denote the content of beaver felt to anything else in the hat. The higher the number, the more beaver felt there is. The Adventurebilt is 100% beaver felt, and as such, needs no "x content" .... because it's ALL beaver. That said, I think there is more beaver felt in an Adventurebilt than there is in any hat with an x factor.

Thats not totally right (if at all...
)
Now 'days the X rating doesn't really mean anything.
I've read it was never a standardized rating system.
While it may have been the way a hat maker rated the quality of their hats, it doesn't necessarily stand for how much beaver content there is.
Different makers rated their hats is difffent ways.
Basically, the more x's, the more you pay.
It was discussed in length here:

So lets please continue this over at that thread.
Thanks
