Cabelas Lite Felt Western Hats - Reshaping to a Fedora?

This is probably heresy talking about inexpensive Cabelas Lite Felt hats on this board...

Let me start by saying I have an HJ from Todd's, applied Johnndy's bashes, and it LOOKS GREAT.

HOWEVER, I don't want to wear genuine $250 felt out in the rain.

I have a Cabela's Lite Felt in several colors (the Nuloden brown is a favorite), $30, and it's comfortable and holds up well in rain.

BUT it's a cowboy style, sides turned up.

1) Is it possible to reshape the hat to a fedora style? (The added felt edge wrapped around the brim seems to make the brim hold it's side flex shape.)

2) Anyone know of a similar, inexpensive Fedora style hat that will hold up in the rain?

Regards,

The lite felt is wool,
so to awnser your question,
its not very easy to reshape wool.

Bingo. In fact, wool is almost impossible to reshape well.

The closest you're gonna come to a cheap, water resistant fedora is gonna be the Akubra Federation, which is a little less than $100.00. That's about as little as you can spend on a new hat without buying @#$%.
HOWEVER, I don't want to wear genuine $250 felt out in the rain.
Trust me, don't be afraid to wear any expensive fedora out in the rain. They're made for it. All good hats are. You're eventually going to need to have the hat reblocked anyway, so you may as well put it through its paces. Ask any hat expert on this site or on the Fedora Lounge and they will tell you to not be afraid to wear a good hat in the rain. :junior: -IJ

I wear my Adventurebilt in the rain all the time. It's made of beaver and we all know how well beavers do in the rain. Believe me, if it's a good fur felt, and it should be for that price, you should have no problem in the rain.

What do cowboys do in the rain?
