Has anyone purchased a Bullwhip from this site?

I found this site a long time ago but forgot about it until I found this link in another thread.

http://www.em-brand-whips.com

Now I know people on here don't like to get into discussing the quality of one store over another but I was curious to see if anyone had purchased an Indy whip from this site. The prices are pretty good. I can get a 10ft whip for about the same price as a Western Stage Props 8ft whip. Not that I think I want to start out with a 10ft whip. Not sure if I could crack that.

Anyway....

Any bit of "info" on the whipmaker or product would be helpful.

Thanks.

Bernie is a well known whipmaker and is a member on this board.
If you search there is some information about him on here allredy.
Just read his about page on his site. He is a expert craftsman.

Thanks.

I'll check it out. I may just order a whip from him because he's got great prices for what look like excellent whips.

I've found and rediscovered a few other whip sites while looking at Bernies site.

DukeWhips has got a special going on that includes 5 extra nylon poppers, one extra fall with a 12 plait 8ft Roo Indy whip for $375 with no shipping and handling in the USA until March 15th, 2006.

But....

It looks like (after converting the price to US dollars) Simon Martin has a good deal too.

The Indy bullwhip is made in the same way as the traditional bullwhip except it has an eight inch thinner handle and different knots. This whip is a replica of the whips used in the Indiana Jones Movies. If you are a fan I am sure you will want one of these. Each whip comes with a spare fall, 5 extra crackers and a container of leather dressing. A personally signed (by me), laminated certificate showing the Bullwhip No., the date it was finished being made, and who it was made for is an extra cost of $10.00.

Adding the $10 still brings the total to about $322.00 US dollars for an 12 plait 8ft Roo Indy whip

Ah! So many choices. It's like trying to pick the right Grail from Last Crusade. They all look great.

IOAB whip

I just ordered a 10 foot 4 plait IOAB today for $125. I was debating for a bit about plaits, like you might be too. Adam Winrich gave me these tips when i didnt know what to get:

"A whipmaker I know describes the number of plaits in a
whip as the paint on a car: it's basically for looks.
The most important thing in a whip is the weight and
taper; that's what really makes a whip crack"

"About strand width, thicker, wider strands will take
more of a beating in harsh conditions. So a 4-plait
whip would have the widest and thickest strands of any
of them. A finer plait whip is better for someone
who's practicing a lot under controlled conditions,
like on dry, mown grass, on carpet, or on a smooth surface."

So if you want to have the exact look of indys go for teh 12 plaits, but realize you will spend a good amount of $$$. Or get a 10 foot IOAB like i did, and the the indy look still for less.

Pitfall,

I thought I might just chime in here about my 'roo hide whip prices.

12-plait kangaroo whips are $40 from me, so an 8-footer is $320 and a 10-footer is $400. You can find pics of my work on my website, and there's a pretty nice pic of a saddle tan kangaroo Indy at the bottom of my gallery. I also have natural tan available.

The only thing is, unlike a lot of other whipmakers, I charge extra for spare falls and crackers. On the upside, if you ever need a new fall, all you have to do is ship the whip to me, pay for return shipping, and I'll put on a new fall and popper for free.

Yeah, I've been looking at quite a few sites including yours. I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do.

I did want to ask if anyone knows what you'd pay customs wise if you bought a whip from overseas , like Australia?

The only reason I ask is because I bought a Mark VI bag from a place in Australia and it didn't cost me anything extra that I'm aware of so I didn't know if things were different with whips.

I've never paid customs fees on any whips that I've ordered from Australia.

I have a 10 foot Robert Duke and I'm very pleased with it. I found Robert to be extremely kind and helpful, the first whip he made me was lost in the mail but Robert made me a new one right away with no extra cost. Truly a great guy and he makes great whips, in my opinion. Not to long ago I put it up for trade on the For Sale & Want Ads but luckily for me no on had the Aldens I needed, so the whip is still mine :D and it will stay mine.
I also have a 8 foot David Morgan: expensive, great, good action and the real deal.
