I'm about to order some aldens, I'd like some advice on sizing, I hear they run have a size larger than your average shoe- also how do you determine the width of your foot? and what measurements stand for what width abbreviations AAA, E, W, etc. etc.

Mine are three weeks old. I had my foot measured by a cobbler that sold Aldens. He phoned Alden and they said order what he measures.
I took a 10 1/2 D which is what I wear in New Balance shoes with my orthodic. Not in other shoes. Usually shorter and narrower.
If this wasn't a boot, I don't believe a D width would fit in the heel.
Get a measurement from someone who sells Aldens or an orthopedic shop.
Many of the forumulites took a half size smaller : We all seemed to agree that the big toe ends up at the stitching and really not close to the end of the boot. A different fit for sure.

I came across your post tonight and was wondering if you ever ordered your Aldens? Did you get your feet measured? If so, you should have ordered the same size as the measurement.

The letters like AAA, AA, A, B, C, D, E, and EEE refer to the width measurement of your feet. The men's average is usually a D width, but I'm more trouble some to fit as my narrow feet are AA with a AAA heel. Lucky for me, Alden comes in my sizes. Unfortunately, the cheaper brands don't. It is nice to get a pair of shoes or boots that actually are made to your size.

Enjoy them if you got them.

Indybill, Quite correct words of wisdom.

I followed the advice on previous threads here and followed it.
Get your feet professionally measured then place your order.

My Aldens are the most comfortable boots I have ever had right from the 1st day.

I have to say that My Aldens have taken six weeks to feel good and I've had to remove my orthodic.
Now, if I don't wear them, I feel funny. Also, with other shoes on, my feet look much smaller.

Well I'm still trying to sort out my Aldens size So far it looks like I will drop 2 sizes from my real size, but go up 2 widths!

Best advice I can give you is take a trip to somewhere that sells these & try them on in person, which is not easy for me in the UK!
