Hey everyone my names Bryan and I've started getting my gear to make a Raiders style Indy. I bought a basic Indy fedora in Disney and decided to start making a decent costume. I also bought the Wells Lamount gloves at walmart recently, the gas bag from singapore(off Ebay), and a basic 8 foot 12 plait bullwhip on eby for $67 (saw winrichs $100 indy after and Im kinda mad i bought the other already). Just bought the sepia llbean pants tonight too. My next purchase will be a wested Raiders jacket. I've been reading all the posts the past week and have a pretty good idea about want to get. Here is what I think I want so far, please answer my questions, and give advice:

Dark brown goat skin Raiders jacket. (I want the stronger leather)
2 1/2 inch colar
looser fit (i workout and still plan to get a bit bigger)
Anodised Black Rectangular Slider buckle (seems to hold better)
2 piece gussets (what are these??)
raiders length
xbox stitching
no facing behind zipper
shallow pleats (how big? and is it needed)
cotton lining
what are taperd sleeves?
I measured my chest at 44 the other day, still need other measurements

Im going to get the basic holster from todd, and hsi web belt. Still not sure who i plan to get my gun belt from, or my shirt. Probably my shirt from Cabela, and the Federation hat from hats direct (disney versions not that accurate enough in the crush). Im using timberland gortex dressing boots i have, which look really good for a subsititure boot.

Sorry for posting so many things in the jacket forum but didnt know where else to intoduce myself. Please feel free to give me advice on anything, especially my jacket. I plan to only buy 1 (at least for now lol), so i want to get it right. I hope to place my order in the next 2 weeks.

Besides Indy I have ep 3 anakin , and I'm in the process of becoming a memember of the CT 501st.

Sounds like you're off to a great start...

The gussets are pieces of leather under the arms that some find allows more freedom of movement, and less jacket ride-up...

Personally, I like the deeper action pleats, and I've owned jackets with both. The pleats seem to stay closed better when they are deeper...

The tapered sleeves are slightly more narrow at the cuff than at the sleeve top. Makes for a more fitted look, in some opinions... I like the tapered sleeves, as well. I have them on my new Wested goat.

Leather and color sound good, I just ordered the same a few days ago after having received a dark brown lamb. The lamb felt and looked fake almost, it was so soft and perfect looking I just couldn't see myself wearing it in the real world for fear of a rip, etc...

Size wise, find out waht jacket you wear and get 1 size up.

Welcome Bryan (MorgonKenbur),

It looks like you've done most of your homework. Be sure to include all your measurements, not relying on the standard sizes given. Also you may consider the back pleat elastic maybe other members can give their thoughts on this - I don't have it though kind of wish I did. Well good luck on your quest.

Best,
Herr Jones

yea i was wondering about getting the back elastic myself. This is why i made a post cause you all have bought alot of jackets and know whats good. If there are any other extra additions i should consider please tell me. What does everyone think about the deep action pleats? Some posts metioned that tehy seemed to flair out alot and were annoying? What are the pleats for? Sorry if i ask any dumb questions, just wanna know everything so i get the right jacket.

Welcome to the forum! looks like your fixing to get a great jacket (I think you picked a good leather...) The only imput I have is, if you watch raiders, his jacket apears to be somewhat tightish, particularly at the begining, since you said you wanted extra room, perhaps for a more accurate fit you should say 'regular' instead of 'loose' fitting (as opposed to 80's fit... which is what I'm getting if I get a new Wested...)

how much difference in room is tehre between regular and loose? About the sizing also, should i give Peter my exact chest size or should I give it one size up. I read either in these forums or on the wested page that he says to give your actual size because he always makes it bigger anyways. If i measured at a 44 chest what should i tell him?

44, true sizes don't second guess. If you want to layer - say so.

Best regards,

KT

PS:

See Striders 4th pic link (below) for a good shot of a one piece gusset. They seem not to want to do 2 piece ones now.
