Hi All,
Here are pictures of my Fed Deluxe. Please comment and make suggestions to make the hat look better.
Best Regards,
Prof. Ed

I don't know Ed. I wish I could help you out. I'm good at bashing things, just not hats.

Looking good Ed! Really looks fine. Feds are such a bargain. My only suggestion is, and is was previously discussed in other threads, for some reason the federation varies in shape via the block used. For example the size 60 (7 1/2) is squarer than the other sizes. I would send your fed to Fedora (the AB guy) and have him block your federation. Other than that, your brim width on the sides and front are proportional to your face dimension. Crown height is ok. And good job on the crown bash.
Wear it in good health.

I like it, nice hat and nice bash.
I think you should take another picture, just like the second one, but with your head a bit lowered just like in this picture on
Pagey's tutorial :

You should then have the perfect "indy" look

It's beautiful. Leave it alone.
Did I ever tell you the story of the Carpet-installer's apprentice?
The Carpet-installer was crafting a difficult wrap of carpet around a spindle in a staircase. His apprentice was working to stretch the carpet tight in the other room.
The apprentice called out, "Carpet-installer, I am having a tough time over here..."
Being busy with his work, the Carpet-installer didn't want to look up or to walk over to where the apprentice was working.
"Yes," the apprentice said, "I just can't get it."
Finally, the Carpet-installer walked over to where the apprentice was working. He looked over and the carpet was over a foot too short from the wall.
"What happened here?" the Carpet-installer demanded.
The apprentice answered, "I've cut this carpet over and over and over and still it is too short."
It's a great hat and it looks wonderful on you; leve it alone.

You did a good job, Prof. Ed! If I were tweaking it at all, I'd work on the back of the brim to get slightly more upturn in it, but that's all, short of giving it 'The Raider's Turn' if you like more of a slightly asymmetrical look.
Good job!

I wouldn't do a thing either. The hat looks very sharp on you as it is.

Ed,
The hat looks fine to me. The Federation was my first hat, and is still one of my favorites. Wear and enjoy.

I think you need to spray paint it red. JUST KIDDING!
I think you did a fine job with your Federation. If it were me, I might lower the back just a tiny bit, but that's just me. Enjoy it!

Looks good Ed!
Honestly, thats about as good as a Fed is gonna get if you ask me. Not many people get lucky like Russ and get one with a really good block.
Hemingway, my grandfather tells that same story. The only difference is that he tells it with a carpenter.
"I've cut this board three times and its still too short!"

Thank you, guys! I might do a bit of tweaking. But after hearing Hemm's story, maybe not

Yeah, that's a good first bash Ed. Maybe give the back an up or down curl. It's kind straight and flat for my taste. You might try "the turn" also.
good bash

My ears were burning again, and sure enough my hat's name has been invoked.
The bash looks great. The back looks a tad higher than the front in the photo. If it is, it's easy to fix in a second with a deeper crease.
I really believe one reason my own Fed bash has taken on mythical, legendary qualities is that the camera was so far away and all traces of distortion (taper illusion) had vanished. Try snapping a shot with the camera as far away as possible, using a timer (that probably means you'll have to go outside). BTW when you race back to your spot, don't trip over the tripod like I do every other shot. It kinda renders the whole exercise meaningless.

It looks good to me, as well. Good advice above, don't "overtweak" it.
I learned from experience not to keep messin' with it.
