As my Federation had a bit side (not front) taper I tried to fix it with a hat stretcher! And this is the result:

Awesome reverse taper there!
Put a bash back into it and see what it looks like. It may not be so bad.
We've all done crazy stuff with our gear.

Henry, what in the world did you do? The hat stretcher is only supposed to be used in the sweatband area to stretch the hatband back to the right size. It looks to me like you pushed the stretcher all the way into the top of the crown!!!! If you did, no WONDER it looks like it does. You've mistaken a hat stretcher for a hat block!

I knew what I was doing and I know the difference between a block and a stretcher, but (shame on me) I didn't know the results! But I don't care anymore because I'm sure it will look fine after it's block by a professional!

Above the ribbon, that hat looks like a lugnut. I love it. If it were me, I could change my screen name to Lugnut Jones and wear it like that.

So how do you measure your hat size, Bufflehead, in metric?

Well, I started out the exact same way. Experimenting. I probably wrecked a few hundred dollars worth of hats, mostly Temples and Nostalgias, but I messed up a couple of Federations as well. Learning will cost you, in one form or another.  Fedora

I think we really won't know the extent of the damage until we see a picture of him wearing it. 8-[

Wait ... I thought, some of the gearheads here prefer the "mushroom"-look. So what's wrong with that hat?

Kidding aside. Henry - I feel sorry for your hat.

Experimenting is the quest for truth. Think of this as an adventure in science. You learned the truth about hat stretching. So, your experiment was a success.
Remember, a successful experiment does not always yield the results one hopes for
It can be fixed. No danger to life or limb. Humanity will not suffer. Thus, all in all, you didn't do much damage except to your pocketbook.
When you think about this "experiment", think about poor, Victor Frankenstein.

Best regards from a science guy,
