Aldens in the real world! My story.

Hi all,

Today I went to a large local hospital to do two things. To help my stepmother take a few tests and apply to be a Volunteer Patient Advocate. An ambassador for the hospital.
I wore my Aldens, WPG shirt, Wested jacket, and Wested trousers. It made a nice outfit. No one gave me a second look. The fedora stayed in the car.
I was quite comfortable in all articles except the WPG shirt and the Aldens. The shirt was pressed nicely, but very stiff. I'm afraid to dry it for the sleeves are shrinking a bit without the dryer. But the real "capper" would be the boots. I did a lot of walking and the boots got heavier and heavier .My left foot still had the orthodic feel to it. I guess it will never go away. Too bad

I must have started walking funny, for my father said are those your $300 shoes? My stepmother asked if the left foot felt better? No. I love the boots, but wearing them for an extended period of time and on the go was tough.
At the moment I have on some slippers with an orthodic in them. I feel the arch in the left foot too. I don't know what happened but my left foot seems to have made a change. Not for the better. At least I don't think. The arch is probably falling and that is why I feel the support.
I might have to think twice about wearing the Aldens to the hospital. I'll have the Med-Surg floor with 62 patients. I'll also be running all around the hospital to make the "squeaky" patients happy. You are allowed to buy them gifts and their family dinner if they complain very much. They want the patients happy. I believe in advocacy, so this will be right up my alley, as long as I don't have to walk the alley

Thus, the story of my five hours in my Aldens.

Ed, I'm not sure what to think about your Aldens woes. Maybe its just that you are not used to wearing a boot?

I wear my Aldens pretty much everyday. I walk 1.5 or 2 miles a day. I've also worn my Aldens on hikes as long a 5 miles. I can honestly say I've had no trouble with them at all. However, my feet are quite used to wearing boots. Infact my feet hurt when I don't wear boots. So maybe it will just take some time for your feet to adapt to the boots.

Hi,

I've been wearing boots that are all leather but look like the LLBean rubber and leather boot. The weight is minimal and the construction is loose.
I suppose I'll have to get used to these "beasties". Time will tell. I sure hope they work out for me.

Is it just the foot with the orthotic in it which hurts? And you're only wearing an orthotic in one boot, right? Does the other foot need any kind of orthotic to "even out" your step? It may be worth taking your Aldens to your foot doctor and asking his opinion. I've had the opposite experience with my Aldens, but your feet are different than my feet...

No, I have two orthodics. I've worn them for five years. I really think that the left foot is changing. There is a full moon

Did you take out the shoe tress before wearing them? That can make a big difference.

Interesting... I've just recently received my Aldens, and I've been wearing them quite a lot.

I do a lot of walking as well, close to 1.5 - 2 miles a day, and although they're a wee bit large (methinks I could've gone with a 9.5 instead of a 10), my feet are very, very comfy. I usually get pain (high arches) in my other shoes, but surprisingly not these.

They are heavy, but not unreasonably so. My Timberlands are much heavier!
