Is the wested horsehide any close in apperiance? It's nearly 100% what I'm looking for in a jacket

well, my friend, it is kind of similar. The color seems very close. Here is my Horsehide Wested:

The horsehide is hard to describe, if you are used to the softness of the lamb it is in another arena all together. Thicker and tougher it actually feels harder on the surface, if you scratch it with your nail it doesn't give at all, it's a bit like scratching the surface one of those plastic arch lever binders.

When new it feels much sturdier and stiffer. Nothing can compare with the 2nd skin softness of the lamb. People who have the horse will attest to how well, or not, they wear in. Goat it seems is the best of both worlds, strong but flexible, slightly stiffer than the lamb but with the ability to wear in quickly and drape in the right way.

But this is my experience.... I've been tempted to buy a goatskin, but in direct comparison, and with Peter's best efforts in trying to persuade me, I am yet to put down the cash for one!

If you do a search, you will probably find Hemingway's and my thread (posted back in April 05 i think) for more pictures. Yeah I'd say it was close aside from the vintage treatment on the A2 you posted. But color and weight seem similar.

thank you, buddies! Arrrghhh!!! It's terrible, I guess I need to see a wested horsehide and goat next to it in real life before I'm able to choose. Í guess none on this board owe a jacket from flightjacket.com, right?

Has that jacket been arificially distressed? If so, does the site have any info on what was done? Somehow it doesn't have such a terrible "new" look. Good colour too.

They don't tell, but I just wrote them an email, I really want to know that. Here's the link to the jacket:

They list four colors for their flightjacket horsehide A2:

Russet
Vintage
Seal Brown
Black

Vintage is pictured (which looks like a dark Mahogany to me). Your best bet is to send the picture to Wested and ask them to send you a sample of their horsehide and a sample of goat in the approximate color. I remember seeing some of the horse Wested jackets pictured on the forum and they were a bit lighter than what you're looking for.

You could also ask FlightJacket.com if they could make you a horse Indy jacket in that vintage color, but it would be more than their Indy goat at $425.00.

The option for adding horsehide vintage to their Custom A2 is $100 and adding it to the Flying Tigers A2 is $200.00, so you'd be looking at over 600 bucks!

The Wested horsehide jacket appears much lighter in photos than it actually is, trust me. The color falls somewhere between the dark UPS brown of the lamb, and the color of a Hersheys wrapper.
