cleaning mink oil from leather

Hey all. I own an all leather fedora style hat (nothing like an actual fedora, but essentially a modestly designed brimmed hat), and have had it for some time now. It is a fantastic hat, sure to last me many years.

But when I purchased it I was given mink oil to care for it. And I have done this faithfully for some time. Now I have come into contact with the leather conditioner/protectant that is used regularly in Heaven and outlying areas, Pecards jell.

Needless to say, I will no longer use the mink oil. But how do I free my leather hat from several layers of mink oil? Soap and water? Specialty leather conditioner? I have always disliked the tackyness, but felt I had no other option. Now I have an option, and I want the tackyness to go away. I can only assume that the leather is some form of cow. Anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks
