I was watching the Fox News Channel this morning and former Monkee Mickey Dolenz was being interviewed. He was wearing a brown fedora that looked very much like an Adventurebilt with a relaxed pinch to the front. Could this be one of Fedora's recent celebrity sales?

Oh yes, for those members of COW who might be a bit on the youthful side, the Monkees were a band created for a television comedy series of the same name that ran in the U.S. for about two seasons back in the mid 1960s (and yes, I'm old enough to have watched it when it originally aired!).

Any comment, Steve?

They were called the “Pre-fab Four” as a spoof on the Beetles.

As a note: I watched the reruns as a kid.

Wow. Funny timing on this post. Just last night I got Season 1 on DVD (I already have season 2). It's actually sitting on my desk as I have to send it back since the first disc I popped in skipped.

The Monkees were the first albums I had as a child, handed down from my Aunt, so I'm a fan. What was Micky being interviewed for?

And to bring this back around on topic, unless Steve has had more than one famous client, I don't think Micky was the one. But please lets not pressure Steve into actually coming out and saying who the client is as he promised said person not to.

Nope, can't say. I have only made one other for a notable person. A hat for an old rock and roll guy. Several of the songs he cowrote still gets loads of air play. In fact, they are on my radio every day!! A genuine nice guy, and a gentleman. He also loves Cuban cigars. Played a Les Paul with his first, group, and switched to a Strat for the songs he cowrote. If you heard his opening lick from one of the famous songs...............ok, enough clues. Fedora

Well that puts Micky out definitely as, aside from Mike Nesmith's tunes, most of the early Monkees songs were written by Don Kirshner's gaggle of writers.

Just to linger on the Monkees a little longer, I saw them in concert in 1967, and they did play their own instruments. They come close to being the founders of country rock, thanks to Mike Nesmith, right in there with the Byrds and the Buffalo Springfield. I still have a green wool hat like Mike's I bought back then. Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn and Jones is one of my all time favorite albums. They were underrated in my opinion.

I thought Nesmith was the only one that could play before they were cast, and the rest took crash courses? Of course, that's silly, who would cast them as musicians if they couldn't play...oh, right, Hollywood if she could.

Peter Tork was also a musician (guitar, bass, keyboards). Mickey Dolenz had sung and played guitar in a local band (he did have to learn to play drums) and Davy Jones had a singing career. He's the reason another David Jones changed his name to David Bowie. Here's a copy of the ad they answered. It's rumored Harrison Ford also applied, wearing his telescope crowned western hat.

That was his mother, but that was sorta the same time as the Monkees. Now his mother's dead and he has inherited quite a tidy sum from her estate.

I hear he used white out on the check just so he could write in a larger amount...

I think Peter is the most accomplished musician, or at least was at the time. He tours now with a band called Shoe Swede Blues. They're coming to Annapolis at the end of the month, but don't know if I can make it or not yet.

Mike's mom did invent Liquid Paper, but he has lost and regained his fortune multiple times since his days of Monkee-ing around.

Pretty cool to see theres more fans still around.

He actually came up with the idea, not for money, but as an outlet to show off his music and the videos he was creating in the late 70’s.

You mean MTV, not Liquid Paper, right?

I just did a search on the FNC web site and couldn't come up wth anything. I tuned in about the middle of the interview, and to be honest, once I saw the hat I forgot to pay attention to what he was saying. At that point I think they were just waxing nostalgic on the "good old days." He did say that he had learned to "never say never" regarding any future opportunities for the band to get back together, and that he wasn't currently in real close contact with Nesmith Tork or Jones, although they did email each other sporadically.

But back to what got this thread started, the fedora that he was wearing looked almost exactly like an Adventurebilt. What intrigued me was that it looked like an exact match in color, both the body and ribbon. It had a tall untapered crown and the ribbon looked to be the right width. I couldn't see the dent in the crown because he had it tipped back a bit on his head, but it didn't look like a C dent (a la "Bogie") and the pinch in the front was at least a half an inch wide. If it wasn't Fedora's work, someone out there made one very close.

It's always possible he ordered one without advertising who he was, or with another name. You MIGHT be looking at an AB after all. Who knows what other celebrities might actually be lurkers on IndyGear...(Note to Angelina Jolie: Move on with your life, I'm married. )
