I know folks are going to comment on the taper...but in my opinion, that just looks like a well loved and well used hat, my friend.
You've done a great job on that Stetson.
High regards! Michaelson

Yeah, it is tapered, but many hats were blocked like that. Nothing wrong with it at all, and it does have an Indyish look about it. Makes me think back to all of the Nostalgias and Temples that I owned at one time. Heck, you gotta start somewhere. I recall getting my first Nostalgia and thinking, heck, it can't get better than this!! Little did I know at that time.

I clearly remember you telling me that too, Fedora!

My only suggestion would be too switch out the 1.75" ribbon for a 1.5" ribbon. It's made a world of difference on my Stetson. Somebody on the board might have some extra ribbon lying around, it's worth asking. I ended up taking ribbon off of another hat to do mine. Other than that the hat looks good on you, fits your facial structure quite well. A lot of times people end up with hats that are either too tall or too narrow for their own particular faces. Yours looks good.

Looks good to me. What type of Stetson? Ark? Temple? "Official?"

That is one nice-looking hat in my humble opinion. It has more personality and adventurous appeal than some Feds I've seen.

Very nice hat! It certainly looks "lived" in. What model Stetson is it?

'The Sovereign' Is all it says on the band. I bought it like 6-7 years ago, I dont recall if it went by any other name.

Obiwampa-
That's the best looking stetson re-bash I've seen. I still have a strange soft spot for my old stetson, mainly because it was the first fedora I ever bought, unfortunately it got pretty smashed and dirty when my house was being worked on. I've been debating whether it's worth getting it reblocked and cleaned just for sentimental value.

Thanks!
I've tried to treat it as badly as I possibly can. Naughty hat!

Wow! That looks great! Nice work. I just received a Stetson Sovereign yesterday! It is brand new and I got it for about $45. I think it is a VERY nice hat and can soon move onto an AB and HJ. My wife and I could not believe hos soft it was... Are people sure this is just wool felt? It might be the pics, but mine looks a bit tapered and "squashed"? The crown does not seem as high as yours, although it could be the angle of the pics and the brim is very large, although it matches the dimensions of the origonal Raider's Fedora. It just looks squat, though. Can you give me an idea of what you did? It looks great and would give me some good practice and something fun to do this evening.
Thanks!
Michael

A lot of people forget that Stetson WAS (past tense) a great hat maker once. A lot of the older findings are very nice. Nowadays... ummm.... no.
Even the "official" Indy Fedora of the 1980's weren't the best. The fur felts were much better than the wool ones of course (just like the Dorfman's today) but still needed a lot of work to get a true Indy look to them.

I think it looks great! certianly better than my old DP, but I'd recommend the AB, even if your on the fence now about the cost or what not, trust me once you get it you'll love it...

Hmmm... Well, I got a spray bottle of water, a good photo of Indy, and just went to work. I had never done it before, but I wasnt gonna let that stop me. I just soaked the areas of the hat that I wanted reshaped, and then reshaped them. Pretty simple actually. Cant really give any advice that others couldnt give much better I'm sure.

I just remembered,
, a long time ago, I decided the ribbon was too light a shade of brown, so I took one of my prismacolor markers and 're-dyed' it. I think I used a dark sienna, and then a 80% gray. It came out quite nice!

So no steaming? Cool, thank you very much... I will see what I can do. Hmmm... My ribbon is VERY dark, I don't see the color as an issue... That is strange. Since the hat is a deep brown, the ribbon would be pretty much black if I add any more color to it... But, like yours, mine has only the "Sovereign" company logo on the inner band and the nice Stetson liner. I am pretty sure there is only one version of "brown" from what I see on all the sites, so that is a little confusing.
Thanks again!

I think The Edge did that once to an Akrubra. He got a black permanent marker and "darkened" his ribbon himself...

I like that hat, also. You need a hat to bash around in.
I like the second photo the best.
