I'm curious if anyone has experience with both and could comment on which material holds up better over time, how they age, and any other pertinent information regarding the relative merits of the two hides as far as jackets go. Thanks!

Going by my poor memory, kangaroo is very tough, but stretchy. Once stretched, stays stretched. Redder in color too - too red for an Indy jacket in many opinions. Goat is less tough, holds up great and ages well.

IIRC, wasn't there a member who posted a pic of a kangaroo hide jacket, and it was so stiff, it stood up on its own!

That was my Aero Californian. Its made from Buffalo hide, not Kangaroo.

And note, that the Kangaroo hides have a very dark, almost black base
color to them. So, as they age, and get distressed, you see the dark
color underneath, not the nice light brown/tan we all come to expect from
the distressing we normally see.

Kangaroo is an incredibly cool leather... but, as has been mentioned, it never gets it right in the colour department.

And I say that as the owner of "The Red One"!

Kangaroo is probably the tuffest of leathers, I say this because of the fact that is the material that most top Motorcycle roadracing professional wear while racing. There are manufacturers who make leathers in goat too but they are never as popular or as expensive.

Yes, I've also heard it's among the 'toughest' leathers. After all, Indy's whips are made from Kangaroo.

Heh, I'll do my best. It's currently in storage, being summer here, but I can say upfront that its ageing nicely... although not very fast. As you'd know, it's a #### of a leather!!!

Goat vs. kangaroo? Personally, I think the kangaroo would win. Goats are small, and kangaroos can box.

I'll second this request; I'd especially like to see a shot of the kangaroo jacket side by side with a goat or lamb jacket for color comparison...

I think you mis-read the posts Antone... Rob has a horsehide jacket. His was one of the first and was made from a different batch of hide. I just want to see how its aging compared to mine.

I don't know if anyone here has a Roo jacket...one gave it to someone else, another got his and sent it back.
