For me its the overhead/horizontal. Man, I can't believe it took me so long to master but for some reason I struggled with it. Thanks, in part to Stenhouse's DVD, I finally got it and it is LOUD.

For me, and I can probably speak for a number of others, but the overhead tends to be a lot more decibels. But, I don't strive for that anymore. It's less is more. Trying to exert less effort to produce that "pop" is much more gratifying. Because to me, that is the technique. Putting your body in position to make the end of your whip break the sound barrier is far more satisfying.

After Dalexs taught me the over head/horizontal crack at the summit, I found that it is very loud, having popped some of Minnesota Jones' whips so loud I felt it in my ears.

I have to go with Sergei, though. The overhead crack requires much more physical exertion than a circus crack or underhanded crack. After a while of overhead cracking, my shoulder and neck hurt, as well as my arm.

I couldn't agree more. 8) And it helps protect the fall.

Given that, the overhead is still loudest in my experience, to the point I could almost need earplugs.

As Sergei said, when cracking whips proper form and techniques are key, they are much more important then power cracking alone, less really is more. The Overhead crack does however tend to be my loudest, when I lose a popper, that’s usually the crack that does it.
