A Newbie's Question: Close Enough Jacket

Hi all,
I did a search, but couldn't find an answer. If it is there, please excuse me.
What would be the closest jacket to the prized Wested? I have an A-2 bomber style, but it really is wrong. Not to mention too heavy.
I wear a 44 R, which is a large. I don't believe I can come up with the funds, presently, for the original. Possibly for something very close, though. My fourth grandbaby is on the way and my meager salary from college is going toward his birth gift. Yes, a little Indiana Jones due in January:)
If you happen to see something, please let me know. As far as the trousers, shirt, etc., I'm all ears.
Thanks my friends. I look forward to your responses.

Ol' Prof. Ed

A Wested is a rather unique looking jacket. I see no problem with wearing an A2 style in lieu of a Wested. I have a Wested and a generic A2 and still wear the latter for a change of pace.

With the right attitude you could come off as this guy..

There are plenty of 'close enough' hats, jackets, pants, shirts, etc. to start a wardrobe. Keep in mind the most necessary thing (imho) is attitude. :)

Thanks. I like your attitude!!!

By the way, what is the name of the Charlie Heston film that the picture is taken from?

Best regards,

Secret of the Incas, I think.

The fedora and A-2 was a fairly common thing in movies from the 30's - 50's.

Secret of the Incas it is. Give that man a cigar!
The A2's were very common for that period of time therefore I see them as very acceptable 'adventure' wear.

Having the money to buy gear is a very real issue for most of us. There are many 'close enough' posts that provide very good options for Indy gear.

Ed, type in "Indiana Jones Jacket" on ebay, and take a look at the offerings there. There are a LOT that, though not in anyway screen accurate, are VERY 'doable' for the interim, and most starting at $9.00!!

Another possiblity that you might not have thought of (or knew about) is that Wested also makes a cloth version of the Raiders jacket. Take a look at the website. It's all made from the exact same pattern as the leather jackets, and it's a WESTED! I wear mine all the time when it's not cold enough for my leather jackets, and love it. I've been trying to get another one lined up, but have just about given up with getting things lined up with Peter!

Seriously, check that one out. It may be exactly what you want until you have funds set aside for a leather one.

Regards! Michaelson
