Couldn't agree with you more, Sergei. Nylon whips do handle quite well. As far as the whip lasting a long time, I have owned one for a little over a year now, and it is still going strong. I have handled more nylon whips in the past year than any other whips. I have to say that they will last well in wet weather. Living in the Sunshine State (don't know how it got that name), I have done more than my fair share of cracking after it was raining.
I was able to find a local shop that sells any number of nylon whips, so I went down and did a little "research" last Sat. I tried out several of the stockwhips and bullwhips. At the risk of going against the Indy look, I actually would be inclined to tell you to get the stockwhip. Due mainly to the construction, the stockwhip is going to be more accurate. The whip will also be better for vollies, and other multiple cracks. Unfortunately, my opinions may be biased as the nylon whip I own is a stockwhip. As much as I love bullwhips, the nylon bullwhips I have handled just haven't quite felt right.
Come to think of it, though, I have yet to handle an un-waxed nylon bullwhip. The stiffness caused by the wax might have had something to do with the less than perfect handling. If you are considering a nylon bullwhip, then I would advise that you buy at least an eight-foot, if not a ten-footer. I tried a six-foot and about took my ear off. The nylon whip will be a little lighter than a leather whip, so the shorter whips will generally be lighter.
Well, I hope at least some of this helps. Just thought I'd pitch in my .02...
High Regards, Indiana_Hall
