Hey Folks : As I venture into the world of cleaning and reblocking, I'm wondering which flange style is the best for an Indy hat? I'm in the process of ordering a size 7 "Fedora" block and am keen to bid on the right flange to suit the puppy.

My clouded thinking says...if you get an ideal LC block, which is a #60 or a #25, What then would be the corresponding flange style? A 60???

I'm also wondering, why it is that if you have a size 7 block, you need a
7 1/8th flange? At least this is what I've been told.

Any help would be really appreciated

Yes, a size 7 block needs a 7 1/8 flange to mate up. On the profile numbers of the flanges, I do not know. There are so many different curves on flanges that you must just look for one that matches what you think the Indy fedora used. It was not a severely curled flange, and you see many of these on ebay. Also, flanges come in different brim widths. I use 3 inch flanges on my hats due to the back and front being 2 7/8 on most hat sizes. regards, Fedora

There is a gap between the flange and the block, but this is filled in by the felt. That is why you must use the next larger flange, so as to make room for the hat body. I am not sure I understand the discoloration remark. regards, Steve

Ahhh....It becomes clearer . I guess that I assumed that if there was a small gap at the base of the block the drying process might leave a difference in felt texture.

Sorry to ask such basic questions . I find that if I understand visually "the process" I get a better grasp. I had to do the same thing when I learned to drive stick . When I see it I understand and apply it better.
