Alden 405 Transformation

Well, I bit the bullet and bought a pair of 405's. I like everything except the color (imagine that!) I have had a pair of J Crew Ruggeds for a year and I really like that dark brown color. Here is the color transformation that has taken place in 4 days! The final step was a complete redye from my local shoe guy and I think they turned out great. This is probably a true crime against the ALDEN gods and serious gearheads - but I really like them. They are the same brown as the original laces!
Right out of the box
After a couple of hours with pecards and dark brown melatonian
after 4 days (2 of them at local shoe shop)
your thoughts - please

Just post a link to the pic. The mods are doing all they can to save space right now.

A bit dark for my tase but whatever you like.
I like the middle color you had pretty well, though I've tried the shoe pollish rout on my JCrew Deckers and it tends to rub off on my pants.
JWeaver, how do pictures hosted else where take up any more or less space if linked or shown with the img link?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Posting a pic in the forum uses the forums bandwidth. However, if you just post a link, when the pic is opened it uses the host's bandwidth, not the forums. Does that make any sense? Sorry, I've been up for almost 18 hours and I'm starting to run out of gas.
Obviously, it doesn't make the pic any smaller. I guess I kinda misspoke there.
mollet, thats a bit dark for my liking too, but all that matters is that you like it.
I've put 2 coats of brown and 1 coat of mahogany Kiwi polish on my Aldens and have achieved a color somewhere between your middle and bottom pics.

Personally, I like that dark color, but I would be itching to get some scuffing going to see the lighter colors coming through.
But you did an excellent job of color matching those, mollet!

I think it uses the bandwith from the server it's stored at no matter where or how it's posted. That's why it's bad to link directly to others' images on web sites (and some don't let you do it) because it uses up their bandwidth. But I may be wrong. Now if it's a picture hosted on the main site that's different.

Ah, ok. Your probably right, since I only have a limited knowledge of how this stuff works.

For such expensisive and custom shoes, why can't you specify a color when you order?

Probably because they'd be even more expensive then.
As I understand it they aren't custum per se, but they rather come in a great variety of sizes, made from stock leather I believe. It would be great with more options though, I agree.
