Thanks, Paul. I haven't found a real silver ring yet. I've been looking for one for a few days without any luck. In the meantime I bought some foil tape and used that where the ring would be. It looks nice enough for now. Initially I braided a different pattern in that spot and put a knot on either side of it to take place of the ring, so I don't know myself how it is to tie the ring in place. When I do find one I'll just remove the knots, slide it on and then put new knots around it. I came across some copper rings that would look nice on the whip, but I think they are a little too heavy and will throw off the balance of the whip.

I see that you're moving to NZ! Will you be primarily making whips or do you have another job lined up there? Best of luck either way.

Hey Jim~ have you tried asking Bernie Wojicki about the silver rings that he uses? I believe he & Simon Martin have both used the type ring you're looking for.

I'm transferring with my company to Dunedin, NZ, on the south island. I'll be making whips there on the side, as now, but I imagine there is quite a bit of exploring that will be distracting! Should be one heII of an adventure.

I couldn't even tell that it was foil. If the ring wasn't split, would you have to slide it up over the entire length? I think if you can find a split ring, that will hook onto itself, that would be easiest to make fit.

Aside form checking with other whipmakers mentioned, Have you checked any hardware or home improvement places? Its just a though but they might have some chrome-plaited or nickel-plated pipe that could be cut down into rings. I don’t know if you could find the diameter your looking for, but the stuff ive seen in the past was pretty thin and light weight, especially compared to copper.

I have been looking in some the local home improvement stores, with no luck. I emailed Simon Martin yesterday but haven't heard from him yet. I'll probably email Bernie later today, and I'm going to ask Mark Allen where the rings are manufactured as well.

As long as I'm sharing pictures, here's one of my Indy whips, too.

I've been in touch with Jim but for everyone else's info I buy stainless steel from the local steel store. Then cut it in the length I want it, then polish it. It is then engraved and then placed on the whip. Bernie makes his own and generally uses silver or nickel and personally I think his look better than mine. But I wanted something different.

As Simon said I make my own to fit each individual whip,saves me having to make the whip to fit the ring. If it's half a millimeter to small it don't fit. I secure mine with knots . I also drill a 1/32nd hole and secure it with a jewelery head pin, stops any movement. Silver rings with no knots have to be secured with head pins and the fit has to be perfect so there is no gap between the ring and the whip. I've posted photo's here
