I just picked up my first pair of Aldens! If the better half knew how much these boots cost.......#?@!%, I'm dead!, but that is another story. These boots are fantastic - period. As soon as I can figure out how to get a pic on OB1, I will show you pics! That being said, there is a place outside Portland, Oregon called Ashley's Footware that has exclusive rights (I think) from Alden to sell a (405) dress shoe with a good year sole. They are not less expensive - if I recall, they were around $320. If you like the fit of your regular 405's, you have to try these!

The person I dealt with at Ashley's Footware was Gordon Rabing. The phone # is (503) 657-8338. His knowledge on Alden Shoes is incredible. He also knows that the 405 was the Indy Boot. (He told me that when Harrison went into wardrobe on the set of ROTLA, they handed him a pair of boots, he said - no way - I have a some boots that will be perfect. Harrison picked them up when he went into a nice shoe shop complaining about how bad his feet hurt doing construction - I guess the rest is ALDEN History)

interesting. motor gear applied to a boot. Anybody have a chemical engineering degree or some ideas as to how much better/worse this mod would hold up? thanks mollet44, very interesting.

That funny... because I think I'm the one who actually told Gordan that story when I bought my shoes from him 5 years ago...

Nice guy, good place.
